According to eWeek, there are fears that the changes being made are too rapid, too focused on the desktop and could make the kernel too large.
Sam Greenblatt, a senior vice president at Computer Associates International is quoted as saying that the kernel is evolving for the desktop, server and embedded markets, more and more technology is being included, and the kernel is "getting fatter".
He wants to see a more stable kernel and is less interested in its ability to handle game and music drivers.
Other critics of the development process claim that there is too much competition among vendors to get code for new features accepted.
