serious power , but i bet it cost a bundle . you should have gotten the cheapest AMD 64 you could get your hands on , most of them can overclock to 2.4/2.5ghz with no problems .

the xtra 512kb does less than a few mhz in any benchmark i'v seen . besides you could probably enable it if you wanted to through a pin mod eventually ...

from my personal experience and all the reviews the asus k8vse deluxe is maxed out by about 225 on the fsb. i leave it at 219 cause it is as stable as not overclocking at all. when i go up to 225 i can only get to bench mark. i cant play any games, it would just crash. i got over 24000 on 3dmark01 already at that fsb. But the nforce 3 chipset is better for overclocking. but i going to max out this board b4 i change it. want to go to a 3700 first, cause i can reach 2.6ghz with that 4 sure.

just for you guys to know

amd64 3400, 512mb, gf 5900xt = 17000+ on 3dmark 01

intel p4 3.2E 1mb, Asusp4p8x 1GBmem,  gf 5900xt = 15000+ on 3dmark 01

did that test back in september.
p4 is no match for gaming

now that is a nonsensical statement yu made there  apprentice

yu probably dont treat the p4 the same way that yu do the amd because

i have a p4 2.8 ghz, 768 mbs ram +dell mobo witha 5900xt as well and i get 14300+ on 3dmark 2001

so yur obviously doing something wrong.

The A64 is alot more powerful than the P4 for gaming , a 1.8GHZ amd chip does more raw calculations per second than a 3ghz P4, until recently AMd chips have had a tiny bus and cache , but with the advent of the HT bus and their 512kb/1mb cache, they can now overtake Intel in just about every area .
  you'll need at least a 3.4 or 3.6 ghz P4 to match an A64 3400.

everything was at stock amd and intel. no oc'ing, just clean install, drivers, sp1, 3dmark. the exact score being 15435.
and for the amd 17199.
and on a p4 2.4 11413 all at stock
and an xp2000 11430. all at stock.
and your score in the middle of stuff. so for stock speeds and no optimization thats cool for me.
if you check on futuremark website any score above 15000 with a p4 3.0 and above and a 5900xt is most likely overclocked and probaly not over 19000.

Sweet rig man, how come u didn't up for a 939socket A64 instead? oh and crixx, what score do u get when u oc ur 2.8GHz P4/ 5900XT??? I get a mere 14838 in 3DMark2001 :) on my 1.91GHz AXP/9800Pro @ stock. I guess the 2600+ notation is just about right.

i havent benched it much after ocing. it plays games gr4eat at oc but for some reason , after the truck test in 2001 and right before the dragon test, it tends to freeze.
even though i can play games really well witht he same settings.

the highest ive safely pushed it is close to that 14800.
i blame it all on the dell mobo.
(possibly that ubsurd 250 watt powersupply as well)
even though i love the processor solution they have , of that immense heat sink and a duct over it, using the case fan to draw the heat off the sink. brilliant i tell you.

But on a high end board, id say that the 2.8 p4 +5900xt is on par with its amd counterparts.

when i got that rig 939 came out bout a month after. but want to go to a 3700 first. thats cheaper than gettin a 939 board and a good processor.

last month i ran up a 2600 and a 9800pro and got bout the same thing 14500 round there.

the asus k8vse deluxe is the first set of board to use the via k8 chipset they just cant pass bout 225. problem with the chipset. if you do a cpuz on a mobo you will see the revision # on the board and on certain boards the first revision of a board is not always the best for oc,ing.

take for example the asus a7n8x. revision one board cant pass bout 190 onless u real lucky, on the cpu fsb but the revision2 board can.

the dfi board, depending on the one you have came out months after the k8vse deluxe alot of people was just waiting for them to bring it out so they can buy it. basically most of the other k8 boards, nforce 3 and up can pass 250 fsb in a heart beat. so the oc features of the dfi is way past that of this particular asus board. in a month or 2 i'll be updating with some new scores. but for now i am very happy with what i got. right now i just having some fun with my old 2600 and a 9800 pro.

depending on the card you have you can even unlock the other 4 pipelines on the card to make it 16 pipes.
