GT4 at last

The latest installment of the groudbreaking series of Gran Turismo is ready. The game is graphically astounding (as to be expected) and is considered to be the best installment yet. Though it has some bugs to work out, and lacks online play (surely a itch many fans of the series were hoping to scratch this time around) it does offer its traditional 2 player split screen and up to 8 player LAN games (I sure GATT HQ could organise something so). This game is as indepth in the gameplay as it is visually mindblowing. It even offers HD 1080 and Dobly Pro Logic II sound, something that is rarely seen in the aging console these days. I as a fan look foward to this game, inspite of its graphical glitches (few and far between) and its lack of online play (as if I even have a broadband connection anys). Those of us who have GT3 A-spec or in the least  a save file with wods of cash will also rejoice as u are able to transfer up to 100G of credits over to ur new game in GT mode of GT4!!! u heard me right, you can TRANSFER CREDITS and get a well accepted boost in the early stages. The game also include over 700 cars, 50 tracks and cars of all types, ages, and to the NFS fans NOS. Yup there is NOS in the game now. Most interesting is the new B-Spec mode in the GT side of the game which allows you to let the computer drive for you. Yup DRIVE FOR U... that will make it easier to rack up some credits. However this will hinge on ur ability to tweak/modify/tune the car to perform against the oter AI players. THe game will also allow you to hook up a Espon colour printer via USB and take snapshots of any car u have on any one of several tracks with ur choice of camera angles. Its really an enthusiasts dream.

The full review can be read at: gamespy.com

here a lil something to wet ur apetite

After completing GT3 A-Spec 100% I thought I would be ready for anything Polyphony could toss at me. I was wrong. From the moment I booted this game up, I just felt overwhelemed. Everyone knows I am the biggest GT fan. But this game is too much. LOL. The review will come soon. I am trying to get the real Logitech wheel so I can give an official opinion. There is so much to do in this game it is crazy. I took me almost a year to complete GT3 this one looks like a full year.

the game is pretty fun...as far as gt goes.  One thing you left out....not only does it do the 100k transfer of cash...it also imports your a and b licenses (though you will have to do the others again).  The only things that bothered me were the same ones from gt3 a spec:

no visible customizations (unlike nfsu)
no cockpit view (they also moved the old 1st person view to above the car a bit, with a slight view of the hood)
still hard as hades to complete the licensing

I'd believe u if you were right.

I doh know what u're talking about the being hard to complete the licensing, cause last I checked in GT3 A-spec I can complete all save the final liscense and thats cause I was using automatic at the time. I thought there was an in car view.. hmm

heh...I had gt3 for about a year before I even finished my international a license....lack of motivation I guess....but the super license was a real pain in backside....but then again, I used automatic all the way through...I guess I should go back and see how easy it would have been with manual...DOH!
I'd believe u if you were right.

I already got all gold in the license tests in GT4 and it was extremely difficult. EXTREMELY it takes a lot of patience. I sat and analyzed the demonstrations and found the best course of action. Sometimes I recorded my "bad" attempts on vhs and vent through what I did wrong in slow motion. This game is a pain in the ass to say the least. The Lic tests really killed my motivation, since it took me a week to get that done, I have only done the first, second, 4wd, and truck races in the beginers section.

It took me about a year to complete GT3 and get all cars. GT4 may take more than that because of the wide array of the game modes. To be honest, this game has really intimidated me. I need to build up my nerve to hop back in the drivers seat again.

The veiw modes are outside the vehicle -] cockpit -] cockpit with veiw of the hood.

Funny enought the coffee break tests actually took more efforts than the S tests. LOL, yes I know.

On another note, has anyone seen the Nike car?

after inveting more time into this title, I realized that I have lost my passion for GT. This game feels overwhelming to me, I got all the licenses and I beat the beginner and professional cup and it feels too redundant. It feels too much like GT3 for my liking, while there are so many upgrades it can be called GT5, i feel to nostalgic when I sit with the title. It's a cold sad day today :(

Ok, finally played it. Not impressed in the least. I like the B-spec feature, but I found the game to be alot diff in handling to the last one and its annoying. The graphics to me aren't much of an improvement if any at all. The starting movie SUCKS @$$ and the soundtrack thus far that i've heard is BLAND at best. I need to get more into the game, but as far as first impressions go, its failed miserably in my eyes, (and i'm a huge fan of the series).

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, and so am I, and my opinion about your opinion is; your opinion flat out, sucks.

The reason why the title is a lot different in handling is because the physics engine has been overhauled into a more realistic one. Which is primarily designed for the use of the Logitech wheel. While the secondary controller type, the normal PSII controller does not compare, it handles the job of controlling these cars perfectly. I suggest you invest more time into the title and get a feel. It’s no easy task, anyone who is familiar with the series would be aware of this. Don’t knock it, it’s an improvement. Can’t be mad because you are having trouble with the undoubtedly steep learning curve.

The Graphics engine has also been upgraded, and while it may seem too similar to the previous one, it is not that similar. Sit A-spec and GT4 down in front of a HDTV and you will see the difference. Take a second and look at how huge and photo realistic the stages are. I guarantee you will change your opinion.

As for the opening movie and sound track, I can’t dispute this with you as they are really all about opinion. The soundtrack for this one is huge and more diverse than A-Spec.

The opening movie is not as action oriented as A-spec but this one was really all about class and the heart of racing. It is obviously meant to demonstrate the upgraded graphic engine of the game and the new feel.

Well Camre when u're willing to give me a HDTV or at least the money for it I will br happy to sit and marvell at the difference in the graphics, but since most of us PLEABS can't afford one, thats not happening anytime too soon. As for the handling, I know they updated the physics, but as far as just being able to pick up and play goes, ur right its a steeper learning curve that would take me all of 1 hr to get right, but I was thinking of it from just pick up and play point of view (initial fun factor as the case may be). Yes the backgrounds are also much increased, but yuh know what, really and truly I don't appreciate that fact as much since I am usually concentrating on the road and not bothered by how much scenery is in the background. If I was a spectator, then maybe I would appreciate that more. Again I repeat its my FIRST oppinion, I am sure it will improve with time and more hands on gaming. But for now, my opinion remains. And seeing as u are entitled to ur opinion as well, ur opinion on my first set of negative comments sucks also.

You really do not need a HDTV to see the difference, but I figured if you can’t see it on your normal res tv, you must have faulty equipment or something. Perhaps you are using an RF cable. Try moving up to a Composite or even component cable.

GT HAS ALWAYS BEEN TOUGH ON THE NEWBIES. This is nothing new. So what are you complaining about really? It’s a simulation, not a simple game. This is Gran Turismo 4, not burnout or need for speed. Perhaps your skills are defined by the limits of these ‘arcade’ type racers.

If you are a racer and you suffer from such terrible tunnel vision where you can’t afford to look outside the severely limited spectrum of just your line, then you are not much of a racer. You must know where you competition is at all times. In front, behind or the side. You may find yourself in a pickle if this is how you race.

Don’t worry, I know this is your first hands on impression. Like I suggested, invest some more time into the title, and maybe it will reawaken the real racer in you.

The Tv is fine, however I still didn't see that much of a diff, but then I use a computer mostly as I doh believe in consoles yet. My interpretation of high res is diff from that of a console, so sorry if I am biased. (again no HDTV)

Be that as it may (and I am no newbie, i've never taken more than 30 mins to complete any of the first 3-4 lisences), I do prefer simulations. However this was a large contrast to the difference between the previous releases ie 1-2-3. I had always thought that they did well in the intial fun factor, which is cut back now, but say what.

Again I doh care for the background that much. I need a HDTV to appreciate it. Again not happening too soon. I don't need to see much more than the road, rare view and whats up ahead. In a game like underground I would appreciate the background as I can just drive as I feel like (not discounting test runs mind u, just that its a diff style of game and I not playing it for the scenery)

It prolly will get better just I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. Remember I did START this thread, hence I was quite entralled, just maybe my hopes or expectations were too high.
