« on: February 11, 2005, 04:53:44 PM »
:(

My slim PS2 lastnight decided to stop reading DVD games or movies, it still reading Audio CD's however.

It's original games and it's not modified at all.

Anyone else having this problem ?

Anyone know where i could get this fixed ?

 :(

Try Sony to have it repaired.

Contact Sony for information, check your user's manual troubleshooting guide for possible causes.

Why do you play MUSIC CDs in a PS2?

I was just trying to see if it still read Audio CD's....

Anyhow it cost $1000 to fix...they replaced the laser and said to keep it cool at all times.

Lemme see how that goes

WHAT! are you insane?! Did you pay for this? You have a warranty from Sony and you paid to have that NEW PSTwo repaired.

I didn't bother to ship it back to Sony cuz i have no patience

Yeh is the laser they change, apparently it fry because i was trying to load a burn DVD movie, some kinda cheap blank and it wasn't reading so the laser overheat and fry.

Also i was advised to run a fan on it at ALL times when playing and unplug after.

Sony is not the best known company when it comes to the level of quality in ther products, but this is stupid "advice" why buy a console that you have to baby like this? This is simply ridiculous. Unplug it after? For what? SO the electricity wouldn't "fry" the console when it's not in use? LMAO

well if you read the manual Sony itself advises to unplug the unit when not in use

As with any other electronics, heat is a killer.

Most manuals claim that as a CYA disclaimer. Do you unplug your pc everytime you shut it down? or your fax machine? or television? or your phone?

Hmmmm............

Anyone else here (in Trinidad and Tobago) ever tried to repair their console using a warranty?

Just curious.
