well i not sure for c'bean people but with my cousin's own we had a bit of trouble at first (i in the USA)
but basically u have to buy the network kit (original one works best)...using the setup cd and a memory card with space...just follow the steps...
the info u would need is:

I.P. address that the ps2 would be using
Netmask
Primary and Secondary DNS Address

for people with routers etc the setup a bit different ...more setting up..

but basically it have default major companies....but u have to go to and do a manual setup....it then saves the setup to your memory card...so once u ready to play a online game it already saved on there

it's simple...and unlike X-box it's free....and alot more fun too
here you would find playstations step by step guide on how to setup your ps2 for online
 PS2 ONLINE SETUP

any other info i would be happy to help e-mail or pm me.....

Just a side note, the new ps2 comes with built in network support.

Anyone trying to go online should remember to get TSTT to remove the server side firewall or IT WILL  NOT CONNECT.
I think maybe the firewall doesn't identify the gaming signature as one that would normally associate with computers and blocks it.

This was my primary obstacle when I was trying to get onto X-Box Live.Should hold true for ps2 as well.

Quite true.  I have been paying SOCOM 2 online for almost a year now and the first obstacle I encountered while setting it up was having TSTT remove their firewall.  However, you should still run one (e.g. ZoneAlarm) on your PC.

If you already have a PC connected to the internet via DSL, then the setup is easier than you think.  If your PC has a free network connection (RJ-45, 10/100 Mbps, sometimes called a NIC) you can connect the PS2's network adapter directly to it via a 'cross' cable.  Or, if you have a hub/switch, just connect the PS2 and PC to it using normal 'straight' cables (CAT 5 preferrably).

Now, here comes the important part.  On the PC you must enable 'Internet Connection Sharing' for your DSL connection, and make sure it is shared with the network connection that is now connected to the PS2/hub.  It is advisable that you turn off DHCP and assign the IP address '192.168.0.1' (if Windows didn't automatically do so) to the DSL connection.  You can also assign an address of '192.168.0.x' (where 'x' can be any number from 2 to 254) to the network connection (NIC).  Ensure that the 'subnet mask' for the DSL connection and the NIC are the same (in this case '255.255.255.0').  Also ensure that the 'gateway' for the NIC connection is set to 192.168.0.1.  Also, remember to turn off the Windows firewall (XP only).

When you set up the connection on the PS2 (using the network adapter startup disc of course), choose 'yes' when asked if you subscribe to an ISP, then choose 'DSL' (duh) use automatic settings whenever asked, choose 'no' for password, and 'no' for DHCP. Then it should save the connection you created and test the connection (can't remember the order).

After all this, you should be ready to go (once TSTT has done their part).  Just put in the SOCOM disc and choose 'online' and see what happens.  You MUST use an original disc or you will get a 'DNAS error'.  Also if your PS2 is modified you will get another DNAS error code.  DNAS (Dynamic Network Authentication Service) is Sony's way of effectively blocking the use of cheat devices, copied discs, mod-chips etc.

If you're STILL having problems after all this, gimme a holler on MSN: jeremeyev@msn.com

If I've left anything out, or made an error somewhere, feel free to chime in people.
