"ATI plots to drop X700XT – replaces with cheaper, faster 12-pipe X800
Posted on Thursday, 9 December, 2004 by PD

The bean of the morning is that after consolidating its high-end position with the release of its RADEON X850XT Platinum Edition (read more about our take on this product later today) ATi is set to dramatically strengthen its position in the mid-range sector with a shock decision to drop its recently released RADEON X700XT.

Yep - the strategy seems to be to replace its X700XT – a competitor to NVIDIA's well received GeForce 6600GT – with a 12-pipeline RADEON X800 (possibly a RADEON X800 XL variant) featuring a 400MHz GPU core and 500MHz memory clocks, and ship it at an aggressive price-point, thereby enabling its AIB partners - such as Connect3D and GeCUBE - to supply to the channel at $249 or, probably, much less."

and it will be PCI-E only for a good long while , IF it makes it to AGP, they'll bump up the price by 20-30 US over MSRP ....  It'll probably knock out the 6800 non ultras dominance, but the 6600gt will not die soon, as soon as the price goes down to MRSP of 199 and stocks get out into the stores there will be a frenzy to get them .

Speculations and your opinion.

This is meant only for people who are planning to purchase 6600 or 6800 so they might consider waiting a bit to see if this indeed comes to past.

X800 on PCI-E ........

no benchmarks yet, but i'd say it'll match the 6800.

ATI’s RADEON X800 SE to Reach Retail, Says Report
AGP Versions of RADEON X800 SE to Emerge Shortly

by Anton Shilov
09/04/2004 | 10:57 AM

In an attempt to offer customers in performance-mainstream market segment something more advanced than the RADEON 9800-series, graphics chip designer ATI Technologies is said to offer the RADEON X800 SE product to end-users, something that the Markham, Ontario-based company did not want to do initially.

ATI RADEON X800 SE is the third graphics product in ATI RADEON X800 lineup unveiled in early May. According to Dell, who so far has been the only supplier of such graphics cards, the product has a 425MHz graphics processor, 128MB of 800MHz DDR SDRAM memory with 256-bit bus width along with typical set of connectors, such as D-Sub, DVI-I and TV-Out. It is generally believed that the RADEON X800 SE graphics chip has 8 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex processors....

An ATI spokesperson said earlier this year that the RADEON X800 SE was an OEM only product, but Chinese web-site HKEPC.com now reports that the graphics company aims to introduce AGP flavour of the X800 SE part to retail market. The product is said to be positioned for performance-mainstream market segment and cost from $200 to $300.

The RADEON X800 SE is likely to offer performance higher than that of the RADEON 9800 XT, but lower compared to the RADEON X800 PRO. In case the speed estimations are correct, when available in retail, the product might put quite some pressure on sales of NVIDIA’s GeForce 6800 graphics offering at the same price-point. However, it is not clear whether the RADEON X800 SE will be available widely.

It remains unknown whether ATI plans to offer RADEON X800 SE versions for PCI Express computers via retail channels.

Officials for ATI Technologies did not comment on the report.

that excerpt is from a 3 month old article, the X-800SE HAS made it to the retail on AGP, selling for the same price as the 6800 , a 6600gt trounces it .
The X-800 is supposed to be cheaper and faster......... newer .11 process and all that .

if you notice the cooler on the X800SE is the same as on some of the 9800 pros.....

ATI's Radeon X800 XL IS BORN:

"Little did we know what ATI really had in store for the Radeon X800 XL. We tested this sixteen-pipe card against no less than twelve different competing configs, and it came out looking pretty good. Then ATI lowered the boom, unexpectedly slapping a lower price tag on this puppy right before its launch. Keep reading to find out about the Radeon X800 XL's killer combo of value and performance."

well those prices aren't confirmed yet and until they are its just old talk to me....but if the prices do drop to those stated then that would be an excellent reason to get a new mobo and processor...btw awesome tech info there trini and synth.
