BEWARE......

from now on the low end graphics cards will be bundled with as little as 16mb of RAM on the board! thanks to the turbo cache technology , over PCI-X ,  the card can acess system RAM at high speeds .
If you don't have enough RAM, you can kiss good frame rates goodbye forever, unless you buy yourself a high end card .
This is very good for high end graphics cards too , in 2006 all you'll probably need is a 128 or 256 mb graphics card, and lots of RAM , and you will be able to play all the games very well  .

But one must take into consideration
1 type of motherboard used to perform this feat
2 the memory manufacturer
3 how does Dual Chanel DDR2-3 perform in these circumstances

Only PCI-X cards will use this feature , so the  board will be designed to push around at least 8gb/s .
You'll need dual channel DDR II to enjoy the full benefits of this system, its not BAD , but not nearly as good as real video RAM on the card ( about -15% performance vs Vram)    .

And apparently this system is one of the requirements of  direct X 10 .

 DX 10 :
- unified shading architecture
- Virtual (system ) memory used by GRAPHICS card
-Higher order tessalation (truform)
-Geometry instancing

It doesn't mean that ALL graphics cards will be shipping with only 16-32mbs of RAM like the new 6200s will, the high end ones will still probably be outfitted with 256mb-512mb , it just means that the graphics card can use your system RAM with no performance loss.

I think that the 6200 TC is an innovative idea... save that its require alot of system memory... which in effect can cancel out the idea of having a low end card for simple desktop machine (which is the market segment for this card). Whilst 1GB or RAm is the recommended amount or rather min u should have (and note u don't need DDR-II per say) this effectively negates the cheapness factor as the extra memory could be the overhead in cost for some more expensive variant card with more VRAM. Still for a low say corporate low end desktop it would suite nicely whilst still offering the potential to play the odd game. Ram prices are low (once yuh doh go high performance) so it could be ur alternative option. @TI is developing similar tech.. we'll see if their implementation is any better than the green machine's.

9550 agp is more than enough,  but Ati is selling it at ripoff price . you can get it for 80 US... for 200 CA you can get a 9600xt, 9700 pro etc.  check www.newegg.com .
   make sure u have at least a 1.4ghz AMD/1.6ghz intel , and 256mb of ram (  512 is preferrable )

The 9550 is a good card but you're better off buying a 9600XT or something to that effect... if ur budget is sub $100US then you could look at a 9600 non pro... I have a system home with it.. it works well. I saw on newegg you can get a 9600XT for 130US I think. Thats prolly well worth it check it out.

6600gt = pwnage ;) i have one . beats a 9800 pro/Xt/5950 etc... to hell, 300 CA is a good price .  consider upgrading to 1gb , then you'll be able to play doom III/MOPHA etc. at 'ultra ' quality  smooth .

using shared memory is nothing new and was the very reason for AGP in the first place.

Not meant for a "high end" graphics solution, but rather to give video cards access to cheap system ram.

The first AGP graphics cards came with only 4mb memory and were dependent on the system bus for the rest.

It worked but was slower than direct ram on the vid card (no duh). Needless to say, enthusiasts steered clear but it would find a permanent home in the OEM channels. To this very day, that shared memory architecture can be found in dells and compaqs all over the corporate world.

This is the same thing all over again, just with PCI-X.

Direct Memory will still be faster so the enthusiast is still going to spring for that. It will be a big hit with OEMs no doubt.
