An excellent question!

Anandtech.com recently had a fantastic article on just the topic --> http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2223

Beware tho, if this sort of thing doesn't interest you very much, you'll soon find yourself falling asleep while reading this article...

Here's a quick summary that I grabbed from the Conclusion of the article...
Quote
All the talk of latencies and timings will hopefully have helped everyone to realize that while the two major factors in overall performance of RAM are its bandwidth and the CAS latency, the other timings' impact can vary from being negligible to having a moderate influence on performance.

Demands are dependent on the application being used, of course, but in general, graphics-intensive operations demand a lot of bandwidth, office applications benefit more from latency, and games tend to want both.

For that, you'll need to check your BIOS.

If the hyperx is older stuff like 1 year old or more chances are its the good stuff and can take 200fsb. Worst case u can try lower timings to have it run at 200fsb stably. I suggest 3-3-3-6 cas 2.5.

I'd be interested in buying it if indeed its the older ones and your selling it.

Usually bios tells you on newer mobos.

If not use a program like cpuz or sisoft sandra or everest.

There is no BEST of anything in comp world. Only BEST for your needs.

So it all depends on what you use for the ram is.

What fsb you planb to run it at. If ypu plan to o/c or not. What timings you are okay with. Price. Reliability. Voltage selection on your mobo. Chipset type.

Brand name isn't always best for one's need.

Corsair isn't worth it anymore when competitors are cheaper and offer same or better value.

well actually synth the best ram is the fastest ram with 2-2-2-5 timings :P.
never give up speed vs timming have better timming normally better in long run .
