Application of the Year Award!!
« on: April 09, 2006, 02:47:10 AM »
My first nominee for 2006

VMWare Workstation.

My Word! What an amazing product.

People have been telling me about this app for a while, but wow. It is amazing.

The ease of installing several operating systems and apps on your machine without having to reformat/partition is just too good to be true.

Allowing me to install linux and configure samba without so much as laying a hair on an installation CD.

The portability. The stability. The robustness. Really cannot find a complaint..

Blow Mind Software.

They have worked some magic here. Kudos galore.

Any other nominations?

Hmmm. It's hard to pinpoint a particular program and identify it as the "best program". There are just so many useful apps that when combined make one very useful PC, but offhand i'll have to say Photoshop CS2

I nominate the Autodesk line of products...
into Architectural, Land development, or ne Computer based designs?
well AutoCAD, A. AutoDesk, L. Autodesk has impressive potential.

as for the "best" software, i would say the programs used for creating the games we all love.... be it COD2 or Most Wanted. Software can be appreciated as the best but only in its category....

so to add to baego title

Best OS

Best Office Suite

Best Graphic Application

Best Programming.... and so on

I'd second that nomination [X]-Baego

Vmware kicks ASS

They also have FREE versions out for those of you wanting to try a little linux without the possibility of messing up your boot partitions

Because I'm a cheap bastard, I'd recommend a few of their products to work together.

the first is the easiest to use - VMWARE PLAYER
http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
- FREE application to run virtual machines. Cannot create the VM files, but you can download ubuntu virtual machines, or use shareware versions of the VM workstation to make usable images.

The second is VMWARE SERVER
http://www.vmware.com/products/server/
-Vmware Server is a free server for virtual machines. The difference is this - you can use a networked, very powerful say, dual opteron or xeon server for running several machines, then use the client to access the sever using the wee machine you generally work from (think VNC, or remote admin). Server is also based off their new code which makes use of multiple processors (or cores) per VM.

uTorrent  <---  yes we've got humongous HDs and gigs of Ram to play with....but seeing a fast, efficient, full featured program  ~ 150k, and small footprint in memory ( have two torrents, and its using 6 megs) is just plain refreshing!

hamachi most definitely owns.

An expertly made little app. Damn easy to use and overcomes so many gaming hurdles that it just isn't funny.

Holds so much potential.

I have a feeling Hamachi is going to get a ton of use in the gamedom over the coming months.
