RealMedia/GEAT Encoding Tech Guide - Public Version 1.0

This is a guide written to make realmedia encoding as simple as possible. It contains half of the technology used in encoding GEAT episodes.

Install Programs in this order:

- ERM 1.83 - http://redcheek.net/erm/ermp_full.zip - Just use default ticked items during installation.
- Latest DivX 5.x or Xvid codec
- yuvcodecs.exe

+ Geat Custom ERM Profile - synthv2_1.emp (attached)

Load ERM. The first time it will ask you to choose settings, GLOBAL SETTINGS box, you can leave at default and hit "ok". But if your using machine for other stuff while encoding I suggest changing [process priority] to "Background IDLE".

#3. Settings -] Load -] "synthv2.emp". This is the standard profile used by GEAT for encoding. It is a good starting point for any kind of encode since its optimised for quality-filesize. I recommend never changing anything. After loaded -] hit "SaveasDef" button to make it permanent default settings. In other words you don't have to reload synthv2.emp ever again henceforth.

#4. Load file. Hit "Start". If it finishes after a minute or two then SOMETHING IS WRONG.

y only half the technology synth?

Because it is made for people who do not want to be bothered with anything else but click and go.

The full tech required editing a script and more files. And significantly longer encode times.

This is actually Tech Version 2 which the GEAT team hasn't adopted yet.

One hour would be under 150MB.

However if your using low res video ie under 512 * 384 then you can safely reduce bitrate from default 368 to say 300-250 for even smaller filesize and still not degrade quality too much.
