Graphic Quality

Yeah ppl.Since the days of the first games like PacMan,We have come along way.But there has been a certain rate of progress like the brought games likle MK then Sam Sho then 3D games.But ever since 3D games came out,there hasnt been a drastic improvement.Scenes like water and sky has improved but the ppl still looks basically the same.Also the colour hasnt changed much.Have we reached close to the limit of Graphics or will one day we look out the Window then look at the PC screen and not be able to tell the difference?

not much of an improvement?  you must be smoking some extremely hard weed, or have an old gfx card ....
   If you compare Half Life to Half life II or far cry... you will see a big difference.. the characters are not blocky, facial expressions, bump mapping, HDR lighting etc.  

 or if you want an even more extreme comparison, doom to doom III ! , Games are advancing , its just that you are either blind  :shock:   or don't take time to look closely at the game .

 Graphical advancement in games is a cycle, every 3 years or so the average person gets a new pc/console, and so every 3 years there is a sudden surge in graphics as most hardware will be able to handle it , every 3 or so years a new id software or whatever-the-people-who-make unreal  engine comes out .

you know to honest i hated the Unreal2 engine. the loading structure was horrible. it always felt like you were loading. all the games on that engine are blighted. I got fed up of Dues Ex 2 for that bloody reason it felt like you were going from load to load. the unreal 3 engine is looking to be the bomb and hopefully it will kill all.

the doom3 engine is sadly a bit too beefy. it you forum surf youll see alot of ppl bitch about it but never the less its a great looking site. the next quake is using the Doom3 engine so no new engine next year. even duke nukem forever ( which has taken for ever to come out lol) is planing to use the doom3 engine. other than that the crytek is going to be the other ruler with a batch of EA games using its gaming goodness.

pc gaming continues to move so fast even the GFX companies have a hard time catching up. its going to take alot for consoles to catch up.

Consoles are eventually gonna be put out of business by mobile gaming machines, just look at the capabilities of the Alienware Area 51M

i think that there would a fairly good difference betweeb gam graphics and real life
cause no matte rhow good games graphics come out they will still always be animated not look like
movie quality

I beg to differ my friend, although you will always be able to distinguish the difference between atificial graphics and real life, it will get extremely close. The graphical strenght of just home consoles has been doubling every 5 years with the birth of each system, NES 8 bit > SNES 16 > PSone 32/N64 64BIT > GCN 128/PS2 128/XBOX 128 bit. Next generation consoles are already slated for 256 bit graphics. if that doesn't convince you, look at the opening scene of Gran Turismo 3 A spec, and i'm not talking about the FMV, I'm talking about when it goes to the real time scene, the graphical quality is stupendous, and considering it was done on the weakest of the three consoles makes it even more of a wonder!

Eventually probably.But what I was saying is that the RATE is much slower.If u drew a graph showing graphic quality vs time,the curve would get less steeper and the tangent would decrease.It is progressing but slowly or at least slower than before.So I think were close to the limits.

progress may have slowed in your eyes my firend, but to me they have not. ok, look at Gran Turismo 2 to Gran turismo 3. We are nowhere close to the limits, infact it's just begining, they just learned of a new technique called real mapping (doom 3, Riddick). Look at tis new method of mapping to the one last used for how many years, bump/texture mapping suddenly seems so old and outdated. You nor i will live to see the limits of graphical Improvements in games or even the limits of technology. its a marvelous thing.

you are forgetting.. how much it COSTS for one of them mobile gaming rigs! a console will always have one advantage : price! and the games will not lag 3 years down the line... unless the developer is retarded .

i'd go with the looking out the window and looking at the screen and not being able to tell the difference. maybe it'll move up to a lot of virtual reality, who knows.
