2500xp or 3000xp barton?

hey so whats a good main board for over clocking that will work with the mobile chip....damn now i am really think about the mobile chip.......what to do what to do

any Nforce II or KT880 board will suffice , make sure it has these basic overclocking options  through BIOS :
FSB changer
multiplier change
voltage change
RAM latency change .
 
 The mobile chips have been known to do wierd things :  on first install they usually boot up between 600 and 800mhz , you have to go into the BIOS and increase the FSB and multiplier to get higher clock . Clock speed = FSB times multiplier , work out what clock you will get at X and Y setting BEFORE you enable them !

  i'll report to you all on my findings as soon as i get my hands into my new machine . Your best bet will probably be to order an A64 2800 , stock cooling  will keep it ALOT cooler than an AXP even with the volcano 10 , and it doesn't o/c bad either . They are less than XP3200 on th enet right now.

this thing is a little too much head ache....i think i might end up setteling on an 3000 barton xp 400mhz chip...i am getting it at a good price around 900TT but without fan

i know this is sacriliage but why not try a p4? i know their a bit pricey but believe me ive never quarreled about performance.

im not one to say ill of anything but unless your buying a AMD64 processor then you arent going to get anything better. a 2.8ghz 533 even out performs the 3000xp.

dont be fooled. i did alot of research and most benchmark sites are inconsistant. eg Toms Hardware a great site but every time a new AMD is released it kills intel but if you do back tracking you noticed that processor that they claimed were faster now arent as fast. take a look

and alot of fairer sites actually tell you that in some cases its so close that it comes down to personal preference or price. yet it is noted that on overall p4 is consistant. while in some instances Amd wins with games (which is why its popular with gamers).

a month or two ago i would have agreed on the P4, but with an XP2800 at 145USD WITH a warranty and fan ,  at stock speeds it can do some serious damage the the P4 2.8 , which is 40US more, it can O/C to 2GHZ on stock cooling, putting it ontop of the 3ghzP4 .

you know im not a big fan of overclocking especialy as some games check your clock speed. also intel has slashed its prices by a 1/3 so a $20, $30 isnt that much for better performance at regular clockspeeds. also some ppl tout it as close to the p42.8 the xp2800 is no where near the performance of the 533mhz p42.8. in fact ratings are that the xp3000
is closer to the 2.8. never the less im never one to rag someone for buying AMD.

   I'v fooled around enough with farcry to know that it DOES check your clock speed, the higher it is, the higher it will push the settings up . I hear doom III does the same .  But the games cannot know whether or not you overclocked, so no harm done in them knowing your clock speed
