I rate review sites, particularly Gamespot and Gamerankings, higher than
forums.
Forums are a good place to get the little details the reviews miss though.
as well as different perspectives.

And customs would have had a field day with your mc on entry of those items.

Lol

But not to stray from the topic, I agree...it is very fortunate that you get
to participate in the ultimate try before you buy scene ever since
prostitution was made illegal.

That said, there are other instruments in place for the moral gamer who
wants to spend his dough on games without getting stiffed. Review sites,
magazines and (kayode's personal favourite) forums.

All provide insightful info into a title before you spend a dime. With a
little effort, you can find a reviewer or two that share your taste and can
steer your dollars wisely based on their ratings.

There are a few games I regret not buying, and a few games I'm thankful I
didn't buy.

Final Fantasy IX deserved every cent of the $450 I saw it selling for. It
was the first game that really made me feel guilty about piracy. Oh well...I
bought FF7 so it eh all bad :P

On the other hand, Chrono Corss left a bad taste in my mouth.

I would have gladly paid for both GTAs...but HALO, which I'd publicly
announced that I would buy, ended up being underwhelming.

Morrowind deserved twice what it was selling for.

Neverwinter Nights deserved none.

Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast is the best $500 I ever spent on games. And
that's not counting the money I spent on the DC, which I bought just to play
it.

Plenty of these games simply not worth the money. I remember quite a few
years ago when the original Playstation Spider-Man came out. I saw it
selling for $400 in an electronics store and almost bought it with my
youngboy-wukkin-in-a-bank naivete. I decided against it and bought it at
Nanan's for $30. I beat it the first afternoon I played it...you could
imagine that shit?

I feel kinda bad, but I also feel good knowing that I'll be buying games
more regularly (not exclusively though) eventually. Piracy is something I'm
amused and thankful that I get away with...not really something I'm "proud"
of.

Just last week Circuit City in the US had an amazing $5 sale on *scores* of
games for consoles and PC. The list was great, and the fact that they were
selling PS2 authentic games for less than Nanan's was ironic. Wish I had a
credit card...woulda make mih name.

it's the message that was kinda strange...
you're saying 'this game is gonna be huge' ,
but it doesn't deserve an 'original purchase' ..

so if a huge game doesn't qualify for a purchase, what does ?

I remember having a great time playing through gta3 and vc - both
quality games
that gobbled up quite a bit of my time. u get something for your hard
earned cash.

I agree that u can't buy everything these days, but buy stuff that
matters :)

I was thinking about it, but I heard the random battles were a bitch, and I
really wasn't in the mood for that tedium at that time.

The airship battles sounded impressive though.

But yeah...FFIX set a standard for me. One of those...personal games.

Chrono Cross was lackin more than a good final battle...it lacked
characterisation. Characterisation is the most important element of a
console RPG's story for me. Excellent atmosphere and design but...frig man.

Closest thing to rpg perfection thus far (well on PS1 scene at least)

Nothing needs to be said bout FF7...it was a new begining and instant
classic.
Sephiroth ownz all j00 platinum colored hair.

  POS ending battle...otherwise OK.
