Trinimc is streaming the City of Villians Beta @ 45 kilobytes a second  ( compression of normal 32k) , 1.17 gigs done out of 2.5 . Anyone else should  be able to sign up on www.fileplanet.com and download too  . Beta starts tomorrow (friday) TUTTA has been gracious enough to give me a holiday, so i can bring my fellow GATTers a preview of the game with high resolution screenshots etc .    Check back around lunch time tomorrow for more details ,everyone else who wants to should start downloading now .
Please note that this is 2.5 gigs , more than a day on dsl...  dial up shouldn't even bother , but i'll try to simulate dial up conditions ( high ping , low bandwidth through downloads)  , or dial in myself if i can get an account , and tell yall if it plays good .
Best someone in a cafe downloads it and spreads it via cd.. everyone sign up for beta keys first anyway , there are a limited number .

ONCE AGAIN THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF BETA KEYS, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY SIGN UP NOW .

lol

yeah, firefox did me that a few times too.

If there is a delay in the actual reporting of the download, you'll see some inflated speeds while the system "catches up".

doesn't happen often, but happens enough to notice. A delay could be caused by a dialog box waiting to be closed or such.

File planet has a compression method that boost normal speed by about 30%  ,  i get 45-50 K on dsl   , on a T1 300 isn't unrealistic .
City of Villians is very enjoyable.. still your run of the mill MMORPG gameplay but they developers tried to twist  a plot around the player to give the game a little drive that most others lack , plus the customization makes it possible for just about everyone to have an original looking character , unlike most games with thousands of identical  units swarming about .
Graphics aren't all that but are good for a game of this scale , still lags when your surrounded by hundreds of people ,  original style that suites the setting  , dark dirty alleys , broken down streets , the people are rendered in a comic book / cartoon style  rather than realistically... its a refreshing break from the million and one Everquest clones out there that look so similar a n00b couldn't tell them apart .
Gameplay is pretty good , i'v been playing straight a few hours.. doesn't take much time to learn the interface as its similar to any other MMO . Addictive like any other.. what sets City of villains apart is its wide range of customization... you can be a wolf-man who shoots fire , or an ordinary looking woman with  a bow and arrow.. There are a few basic classes , one based around strength, another using armies of minions etc.  but they don't stick you with a fixed set of powers like most others do , you can choose primary and secondary abilities...  Ranging from Ice powers , chaos attacks ,mind control , even plant binding .
Missions are sometimes associated with a story that involves the player becoming a 'chosen one' , and the war between the villians and  heroes . More interesting than what most MMORPG's have you do, but still a bit repetative as it usually involves killling / stealing / blowing something up .

Plays good on my athlon xp 3200, 1gb RAM , Geforce 6600gt , but lags  in populated areas @ high settings ,  1024x768, the game uses over 512 RAM after a few hours of play ,  i would recommend a decent system to enjoy this game.

I will do a more in depth preview after the stress test is done  , still only scratched the surface of what the game is capable of.

very nice going so far trini

i can see you dont know everything bout the game yet, but there is alot more in the game that seperates it from other mmos

Especially the power slot system.

You dont just "get" secondary powers
you three slot three diff sets of powers, and depending on which ones you mix, you get some seriously cool amalgamations of the powers.

Check to see if the pvp arena is active as yet.

And about the download, no, this was different, the download started and seconds later i had already downloaded 42 megs of the file.
and the download held at 300 +k for about an hour. its down to 64 k now.

I think the servers just crashed  , i lost connection to the server and can't log back in ... :( .
more screenshots ,   game has a nice ''enhancement'' feature that allows you to upgrade your powers with things you find/ buy . To make them more accurate , more powerful , give them greater range etc.  2 enchancements of the same type can fuse with a percentage chance of success ( if it fails i guess you loose the items) , so if you have a +10% damage and a +5% damage  , you can fuse to make +15% damage on your power .
Game engine is pretty advanced, if you look closely you can see pixel shaders and bump mapping mainly on characters or water .     Still amazing how many different characters i see.... pirates , men looking like they came from KOTOR  or mortal combat ...
GAme will play good on dialup, i ran a download while playing , could download full 32k and still play fairly smooth...
Check out that ''hot chick'' :p

apparently i'v been in the 'slum' area of Mercy island , the slightly less slummy area has a bank that can be robbed... and higher level people  to kill .  The game does have a story , though the missions are repatative and look like almost all are single player ,  they do offer some nice variety , and comic book style cut scenes that explain some of the  story.....
Also there are some basic rag doll physics , if you hit a much lower level enemy a powerful spell he will be knocked off his feet , likewise high level enemies can blow you away .  The game after a few hours uses over a gig of ram , especially in the main area .. the island is huge!
If the game had slightly more interactive gameplay eg. fighting game style  combos and better missions ,  it would probably rape all other MMO's thanks to its  customization  ...  but  otherwise its still adictive and great to kill time .
