Quote

Gifford, Kotb and advertising exec/dude advice giver Donny Deutsch – author of The Big Idea: How to Make Your Entrepreneurial Dreams Come True, From the Aha Moment to Your First Million – dispensed the following advice to someone concerned whether it’s “OK for men to play video games in their 30s and over”. No. The answer’s no,” contributes Deutsch, “When you’re in your 30s, there should be something more on your mind, your attention, than video games.”

Gifford and Deutsch apparently agree that it’s perfectly fine to play them with your kids, with Kotb clarifying that “those weird ones in the basement”, that’s a no-no.

The Entertainment Software Association reports that the average game player is 37 years old, the average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 41 years old, and that 29 per cent of Americans over the age of 50 play video games.

So, there you go, adults past your 20s. You’re a cellar-dwelling weirdo. Now you know.

"There should be something more on your mind", like what? If you can't manage your time or cant stablize your life then fine. What about those who see gaming as a relaxation method or simply, "miraculously" enjoy it?

A little cliched and narrow-minded sort of opinion for me.

Agreed.

But if you come from the stand point of the "older" folk, they do see it as a waste of time.

Clearly they dont realize how successful the industry is. The very computer they sit down and post such an article from was/is most probly built by someone who does the very thing they seek to condemn.. play games. The creativity behind the the development isnt worth time? The art work isnt from talent and patience?

So what do they say to the people that sit down and paint all day? Or write novels? Or think of toys to make for these people's children to play with?

You rather an adult over the age of 30 making weapons of mass destruction? Ways to cause more conflict and destruction around the world? At least they're not out robbing and pillaging the townsmen's crops. Pros and cons to everything. Moderation is key.

Very narrow minded point of view indeed.

lets not forget that which these guys forget...the advent of the gaming market directly affected the progressive development of GPUs

and as we all know GPGPU applications and processing have greatly increased the vocational lives of researchers and scientist (google bonic / F@H)

even we directly benefit from it, even though it's a gray area, GPU password crackers can do in < 1 mins at times what CPUs take hours or even days to do...

applications like adobe and autocad now use the GPU for alot of rendering directly instead of passing to the CPU - shit's so fast i can hardly believe is the same old apps (branding ofc)

fire fi dem bald heads

game on.

Just tied up the loose ends for me there Neph.

Really didn't want to ramble too much.

The world cannot deny the innovations in technology that were spurred by the gaming industry development.

I also want to add this, since looking back on the article i see its a certain gender making the comments. I would rather my children/spouse be sitting down in the next room 'wasting' time playing video games rather than be out cheating/doing drugs.

Again, pros and cons. Objective thinking ftw!
