On this Father's Day, let us not forget the founding fathers of Video games as we know it.
To the Man who started it all, all cheers for Ralph Bear.

Richard Garriott
aka Lord British
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Garriott
The man has influenced my life profoundly with Ultima. Those RPGs were almost a religion unto themselves.
Also, the forefather of the MMO scene with Ultima Online. I avoided that like the plague for fear of being hooked and addicted for life. That was the WoW before WoW.
Fun fact, Garriott has been to outer space....to the international space station to be exact.
also,
John Carmack
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_D._Carmack
Creator of Doom, Castle Wolfenstein, Quake, Commander Keen and the lesser known Slordax.
Another harbinger of the gaming world we have come to know and love.
Fun fact, like me, he is also a martial artist.

Wow, didn't know Hideo did Zone of the Enders. Loved the anime. Will have to pick up that HD collection version I see they've released for the PS3.
Big fan of Matsumoto's work myself. Especially Last Blade 2

a HUGE inspiration to myself as someone in the industry. He was told be his peers when he began working at Konami. This was after proposing a stealth based military game
"At least try to finish your game before you disgrace yourself" Where are they? Who cares....where is he? we ALL know.
My favorite quote by him "Making the impossible possible, if you can't do that what are you doing making games?"

Gunpei Yokoi: The father of portable gaming. Creator of the Game boy
Without him we may have never started playing games on cell phones or any portable device, or seen the viability of it on such medium. Also the creator of the D-Pad.
