Data retrival
« on: July 25, 2014, 02:14:33 PM »
I have a 1TB WD USB external drive that fell, when I plug it in the light flashes and I can feel it spinning but it does not appear on the list of drives. However in the system tray under safely remove and eject data the drive appears and I can click remove and I get the relevant prompt that it's now safe to remove.

What I need is someone to either get the drive to work or to get the data off the drive. If the drive itself can't be saved I would of course purchase a new drive from you to place the retrieved data on.

Any knocking sounds from the drive? If yes, you in some trouble. If no, then you can open the external drive and hook up drive internally in a PC or to another external HDD dock

You can try what Sax said and install it on your PC to see if you can retrieve the data that way. If you can't and you're in the Eldorado/Tunapuna anytime soon, I can see what I can do for you.

No worries Qza. We can take care of that for you.

1st level data retrieval on a dead hard drive isn't costly but is very time consuming. You'll need to give us a couple days with it.

2nd level data retrieval is a very expensive and takes even longer, (two weeks). Involves retrieving data from the platters directly in a vacuum environment. No charge for this one if it is not successful.

I only recommend going to the second level if the data is of utmost importance.
