Hmm, that score is a little low. Could you try this the 3dmark 2011 benchmark?

It is our latest official leaderboard

New GPU or a new system entirely. The CPU isn't bad and is more that capable of running the new games at good frames with a better GPU.

In order to break anyway high in these leaderboards will require a change to an Intel System with an i5 3rd generation minimum, coupled with a GTX 700 series or AMD R9-200/HD 7800-7900 series GPU.

Best bet is the whole system.. Would like to experience AMD Eyefinity when I upgrade. I'm guessing Intel Systems do alot better than AMDs?

Benchmarks mean nothing to the average gamer. I will get a lot of flak for that comment, but it's true. Most of the guys here are not your typical run of the mill gamer. Why? They just like to game at a "higher level", meaning, more frames = smoother experience, but, at what cost? *looks at Arc, Messiaah, et al.*

Intel CPU's outperform AMD's. There's no argument there. The difference is, AMD is cheaper which really isn't a bad thing at all. They can still run games very well and most people cannot tell the difference between using an AMD system vs an Intel. The key to getting the best performance out of your system is to not have a bottleneck.

That CPU you have there just needs a better GPU to run games at a higher quality. You can dig around the professional tech forums and see what GPU your CPU can properly push. From my research, a GTX 660/660ti, 670, or 760 won't be constrained by that CPU. Or an HD 7850/7870 - 7950, R9 280x, R9 270x. Those are all mid-high end cards.

You also don't want to buy old tech. Right now, the GTX 700 series and AMD R9/R7 200 series are the current generation so keep that in mind when looking at an upgrade.

So why you lookin at me for?  :laughing7:

What you can upgrade to will be determined solely by your budget.  You have to know what you want to spend beforehand, on each item.

General rule of thumb for me goes like this:

For core system components
Motherboard - 200 US
CPU - 300 to 350 US
GPU - 300 to 400 US
RAM - 100 to 150 US

PSU - well, get that locally (warranty concerns).  Prices vary wildly.  You may have to shop around.

Those hard limits won't/can't be the same for everyone.
Try to limit your upgrade to 'core components' for now...namely: Motherboard/CPU/RAM
Make sure and choose parts that you'll be comfortable with for at least 3 years.  Video-cards, drives, cases, peripherals evolve faster
than those core components, and tend to fall in price faster, so you can always look at those separately.

Depending on your current hardware you can even look at 'small-form-factor' components for a proper upgrade as well.
What's 'small-form-factor' you ask?  It's mini-ITX motherboards and cases.  The mini-ITX boards are proving to be just as capable as their
full-size brethren, and most new mini-ITX cases can fit fullsize video-cards and PSUs.  Some, such as the Cooler Master Elite 130 can even fit closed-loop liquid cooling kits,
so you can use Intel quad-core CPUs and dial up the overclock a little.  :happy0203:

...and yes, the Intel CPUs perform head and shoulders above their AMD counterparts, but are a little more expensive. (totally worth it though)
You can use an Intel CPU with a AMD video-card, just in case you're wondering.

Arc (and Messiaah) spend an insane amount on their PCs. Try competing with those guys if you won lotto recently.

My rigs are far more reasonable in price.

For core system components
Motherboard - 100 US
CPU - 200 US
GPU - 250 US
RAM - 80 US

I've only splurged once in recent years and that was to beat up people in this very leaderboard, lol. Lihixxxxxxxxx

Virtue is right under normal circumstances, the average components will game very well. No need to go for broke.

However....we are not under normal circumstances.

Battlefield 4 is a game changer (pun intended)

The definitive experience that justifies spending big money on burly and powerful components.

A mainstream or mediocre PC will not do justice to that game. If you can afford a $300+ GPU, definitely purchase it. Likewise, a US$300 CPU.

The game will reward you with buttery frame rates and superb graphics.

If you're just going to play DOTA 2 or League of Legends, then ignore all that was said and follow Virtue's advice. Buy any old PC. Hell an A10 integrated APU from AMD can run that smoothly. lol

Well DOTA2 and LoL bore me.. I prefer BF4 and high end games like Crysis and Far Cry.. will start making some $$ and buying parts. If lotto win is imminent, will give Arc and them some competition  :awesome:
