I dont think everything B has been saying is crap. From his position he does have a point.

Not everyone has the creative genius that is nintendo. So not everything could be ah zelda or mario.
The point about everybody not trying to be another COD is valid, but the games shown at e3 that wasnt the case. Those new IPs were different, significantly so. But the point he made about the money required to make games that good is valid.

It takes a shit-ton of money. Personally i want better and better games, i dont want people go the safe and easy route, focusing less on graphics just because it cheaper. I want them to push the envelope, thing is it costs money, alot of it.

Now let me show u how the dev's loosing money. Picture they make a game, and 1 person in your group of friends buy it, and they just re-sell it or lend it around. And about 10-20 ppl end up playing it. That's 10-20 less sales just happen there. Not all games have multiplayer, so for the SP games, that's bad. For the MP games they have to entise u to want to keep playing it and not sell it yes, but games like uncharted that heavy sp focus, those games getting sell time u done beat it.

So is alot of money not coming back to the publishers and developers. You can treat it like 1 person bought a dvd movie and rip it have have all he friends watching it, i know it's not exactly the same thing in principle, but it has the same effect. Developers end up spending much more on games, and end up making alot less. Which leads to THQ.

We all as gamers, do not want another THQ. But if the industry dont do something about it, that's where plenty men will end up. But whether we like it or not Cliffy is right, Free-To-Play poping up all over the place, me and wyatt was talking that recently and low and behold that's exactly what happening. And free-to-play have the potential to rape consumers alot more than used games. IF F2P is done right it's brilliant, but if it's done wrong it's horrible. And if that's what developers are forced to do to make the money they have to make for the game, then we all screwed.

So from a logistics standpoint, they make a game and spent money intended for 50 million sales, but they lost 10 million of that sales because 20% of ppl played it used. That adds up to millions of dollars in lost revenue. Which leads to blocking of used games, online passes, f2p, price hikes in the gaming industry. We mite not like it, but that's the reality of the situation.

Personally i think steam has found the best solution, no used, no sharing, but nice special sales and price drops during the appropriate season. Most steam users are happy with their purchases. The console industry just have to find that balance.

On another note, i've been following the xbox support twitter and it seems they are back-peddling a bit, they are now saying that no official information has been released on how region blocking is going to work, and right now there is just speculation in the air, and official info will become available in the coming weeks.

I hope all the out-cry causing MS to revise their policy.

Precisely said with regards to steam getting the model right.

Most steam users are happy with their purchases. The console industry just have to find that balance.

The value proposition presented by digital games is simply fantastic.

No running to the store. It has faster loading times than disc games. Cheaper. Saves on shipping costs if you normally import your games. You cannot "lose" your physical copy. Etc...etc...

Games have come to love it.

Instead of fighting the old battle and losing....consoles should move QUICKLY to the new digital distribution model.

It is a happier conversation to have.

Would you like Titan Fall for $39.99 as a direct download? Sure....why yes...I would love that. (No mention of the fact that being a digital download, I won't be able to resell it, lol)

The PC platform has all but gone digital....consoles can do it too. They need only try.

And then poof...the problem disappears. Everyone is happy. Win Win

Yup, there are many advantages to digital.
I just love the fact that i never have to look at another disc again, yuh disc get scratch, u just lost 60$

My pc could die, who cares, get another one, install steam, press download. Easy like pie.

Many many advantages to an all digital eco-system. They just need to offer the incentives to entice people to accept it like steam did. but it's very early still, they mite very well do that.

Microsoft Engineer Defends Xbox One DRM Requirements, Makes Valid Points -

"A Microsoft Engineer working at Studio A, 40th ave in Redmond, Wa has posted his arguments and views on Microsoft Xbox One’s 24 hours internet requirements, DRM policy and more. This is not a marketing guy’s reply to criticism on Microsoft’s decisions, this seems to be a honest argument/view on all these topics."

>The thing is we suck at telling the story. The whole point of the DRM switch from disc based to cloud based is to kill disc swapping, scratched discs, bringing discs to friends house, trade-ins for shit value with nothign going back to developers, and high game costs. If you want games cheaper then 59.99, you have to limit used games somehow. Steam’s model requires a limited used game model.

Sounds exactly like the same kinda points me and wyatt has been making.

I remember us discussing on this very forum why a disc-less format for consoles is inherently a VERY bad idea.

It's interesting that it's suddenly a good idea because M$ is going down that road.

I wish everyone was as lucky as Messiaah and TriniWyatt to have plenty money and blistering-fast internet so they could pay to rent games and watch TV, waste time on fantasy football and admire high-polygon-count dog, and dirt under fingernails.

The rest of us 'poor' plebs will be happily buying/selling/trading our PS4 titles long after M$ shuts their servers down.  :)

I think digital is absolutely the way to go for consoles and PC alike... IF and only if benefits such as lower costs due to money saved on physical distribution are passed on to the consumer. Knowing Microsoft as I do though, a digital copy of a game will cost the same $60 us as the disc version.

I feel for persons relying on used games though. With the xbone you're pretty much screwed.

The more pressing issue is the activation region thing though. They really shooting themselves in the foot with that one.

Arcman, is not because MS doing it i like it, Steam is d ones who pioneered this thing, and since steam start doing that i was so happy. I fully supported and endorsed steam, they are the reason i own most of d games i own today. Disc-less sytem is a godsend, and i happy steam did it. So is not because of MS, is because its the future.

As the article pointed out, steam also went through some pains initially. As will MS. And it would be very surprising if sony dont follow suit in a few years.

I want everything to go this route, including bluray. Right now the only way to watch a proper bluray movie, is to buy a disc, or pirate it. And pirating these days dont make sense, and buying a bluray disc makes no sense. Cause to be hunting to find disc to put in rom and thing, rel pain, i just watn to launch xbmc and press play. Now if they were to provide Digital Bluray, my o my would that be attractive. But at the moment they only doing digital HD, not TrueHD. So i juss waiting. Digital HD audio is another thing i want, currently d only site i see doing it is www.hdtracks.com , and they hardly have a collection to speak of at the moment.

The advantages of an all digital system far outweighs the cons. And like steam, it go take MS some time to get the balance right. But once they do i fully expect sales, cheap games etc.

Awesome u say MS wont drop game prices , but they did with Windows 8, so they already showing sign of being flexable there. Also, steam games does still at the moment launch at full retail 60$, is just that after a few months it does have some nice deals.

Case in point:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/8870/
Bioshock Infinite is still 60$ on steam.

But come holiday sale u go see price drop, and since it digital, other retailers go be able to offer steam keys for cheaper too. So i dont expect launch games to be less than 60$, but i do expect d same sort of steam-type sales after a few months of release.

And yes Capt. the region lock thing is the most important issue at the moment, because if we cant even get d console to play games, then whats the point lol.

Edit:

Also keep in mind, sony have hardware in the market to protect eh. Hardware that they go loose money on if things go digital. MS and Steam have no such hardware to worry about (bluray players etc). So right now it's in sony's best interest to stop the digital revolution, but come hard come soft, it's going to happen.

Yes they start digital, but they not pushing it hard, and sony also not stupid, they knwo that's where the future is, digital, so of course they go add it, but they not pushing it hard. Launch titles for instance was never available digital.

We have to see if launch titles on the ps4 will launch disc and digital simultaneously.

But either way, that's the future. Like i say, come hard, come soft, everybody will be all digital in the end.

With the announcement of Microsoft’s Xbox One, there has been a collection of hatred focused on new video game DRM restrictions. Unfortunately many users don’t truly know the actual measures being put in place on Xbox One video games. In addition, there are a collection of new benefits that come with Xbox One games that are being overlooked. Let’s take a look and talk about how Xbox DRM licensing will actually work. My goal is to help you understand Microsoft’s decisions and see some of the benefits of the new DRM system. If you are still angry at the end of the article, which is fine – PlayStation 4 is a great alternative and I hope you enjoy it (Just let me know how good “The Last of Us” really is)....

This is another nice read to understand the reasons and advantages to what ms doing, again, thing me and Wyatt already spoke bout.

Look for the story on 'wpcentral'.  The website url is wreaking all kinds of havoc with this forum's code...

Just read that article shiv posted.

That is fantastic news. If the PS4 goes that route then Microsoft will surely follow.

Which is brilliant all around. The more digital titles the better. Steam has me spoiled rotten on the concept.

Really hate having to go back to discs for the next gen.

Love how they highlighted the major advantages of a digital distribution model. Cheaper gamers iwmc!

"We're shifting our platform more and more to the digital side - PS4 will be similar to PS Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc. The Witness will be a digital release and because of the flexibility of the digital distribution scheme, we can have more small games that might be free or available for a couple of dollars, or different services like free-to-play or subscription models."
