kind of tepid specs there

They won't be winning any benchmark competitions with those....that's for sure.

still, love Nintendo (if for nostalgia only) I'll be picking one up.

I still think nintendo can hold their own. The Wii showed the world once again that superior hardware doesn't win the console wars. sure they didnt have the best looking games but that sure didnt stop stores from selling out.
this is the ps1 vs n64 but this time nintendo opting for the ps1 slot :P and MS/$ony taking the n64 slot.

Holding your own isn't winning though.....but seems Nintendo isn't in it to win it. That's just fine

Half of me is a power user, craving for more mhz and megabytes

the other half is happy to play Mario Kart 64

Nintendo keeps appealing to the latter and nothing is wrong with that.

As you rightfully said....their approach produces impressive sales results.

We'll soon see if they can repeat the performance.

More info on the Wii U's hardware specs.

Quote
Marcan states the Wii U’s tri-core PowerPC 750-alike CPU clocks in at exactly 1.243125GHz. For comparison, the CPUs of the Xbox 360 (also tri-core) and PlayStation 3 run at around 3.0GHz each. The Wii U’s GPU core clocks in at 549.999755MHz, compared to the Xbox 360′s 550MHz GPU. He noted that the CPU was similar to the Wii’s Broadway, but with more cache.

Not a quantum leap but decent enough

Didnt the PS3 and 360 suffer pretty badly at first? Isn't it a bit early to be preaching doom and gloom? Lets see what the rest of the year brings before we assume the worst.

All Nintendo needs is that one killer app...that one title that offers an experience that no other platform can, and interest/sales will skyrocket.

I think it's really up to them to come up with something killer in-house...something that will cause developers to really sit up and take notice.

But people have gotten so used to those franchises though... I fear that even those classics won't be enough this rounds.

They definitely need something new.

I have strong faith in the first party titles but Arc may have the over riding sentiment.

If the general gaming population at large see the Wii U as a slow train wreck it will give tremendous momentum to the PS4 / Xbox 720 in 2013/2014.

The time for Nintendo to Shine was 2012 / early 2013.

Instead, this is the sort of "meh" vibes being thrown about.

As many know, I'm a fan so I don't want to see them become another Sega.

Here is hoping the story changes fast. Very fast.

Everybody said the same (and worse) about the Wii's original launch, and in no short order the console outsold xbox and ps3 for a very long while. But ps3/xbox graphics and games continued to advance whereas the original wii didnt, so xbox eventually overtook wii sales.

It is way to early to say what is the wii u's faith, especially after seeing how d original wii, despite the critics and nay-sayers, took the world by storm.

I both agree and disagree with Arcman's statement.

I agree that nintendo just needs that killer app to sell they console. But i disagree that their tried and true 1st party titles wont be enough. I think it will. If Nintendo launch HD versions of these games, i buying a wii-u just for those and nothing else:

Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash Brothers.

Nintendo 1st party titles never disappoint. If they nail a solid Smash Bros, rel men go snipe that system. Cuase it have a rel rabbid smash bros fanbase out there. ANd well zelda is self explanatory. I buying a wii-u instantly once a new zelda available for it. Even if all i ever play on it, is that zelda.

Unfortunately doh, the wii-u looks like another wii, few good first party titles, some fun party games for the family, but ps4/xbox/pc for the rest. Would love to see nintedo go toe-to-toe with the big boys, and i think they should be able to hold on long enough to try again the following generation.
