I never found the zeal to finish the second game after I got bored midway through. Watching his review make me want to try again before I tackle Crysis 3.

Theres a "Previously on Crysis" video you can watch in the menu's to get you up to speed.

Finished the campaign last night. Game very pretty (Had most stuff on highest settings except shadows and post processing which were down a notch) with some very awesome action cinematics.

Level design is very nice, but the waypoint and "fire here" system needs alot of work. Noticed alot of the time catch boxes for items were just wayyyyy too small (annoying in heated combat when you want to run over a weapon, pick up and go)

Something I always wanted. The guns in Crysis 3 are not a HUGE number, but they can be modded. I would like to know what ammo remains in a weapon before I pick it up (always wanted to know if a developer can do that.....HEYyyyyyyyyyyyyy idea for my project ;D)

AI needs work. I had guys running into walls (nav mesh issues indicating non-modular code design and a TON of moving around in some levels). I noticed this on crysis 2 as well (fight with the tripod in the closed off plaza).

Action cinematics were great, story cinematics were a little too long and didn't have the "crunch" factor.

Weapons felt nice, heavy guns felt like they can do damage.

Had an issue in a level where I had to Halo flip a tank, and it kept doing a full 360 landing right back with its underside up again.

I know what these guys were trying to do, and given that crysis (first one) was their first game and they are primarily a rendering house (pretty graphics, poor optimization) its a decent game.

As for MP. It's not bad, just not hugely compelling. You kinda feel like a regular dude since everyone has suits. Defeats the purpose. The exclusive modes (Hunter mode) kinda like the zombie mode in other shooters is nice. I always liked the Riddick MP (where one person is riddick and the rest are soldiers) or Splinter Cell (one person is Sam and the rest are mercs). Sad those modes dont really pick up.

Would give it a 75. Pick it up if you can, if not you can always wait for the bundle sale that is surely coming in Easter.

I give these guys alot of props though. A Jan/Feb and March launch means that them men didn't have chrismas holidays :(

'Bargain bin'?  Ha!
No need to belittle the title.  It is what it is. (and it's a LOT better than Rage :laughing7:  )

I will say this... if you have anything LESS than two (or three) of THE very best GPUs in SLI/CrossfireX...your rig is NOT ready for max settings...ESPECIALLY at resolutions above 1080p.

MSAA is PUNISHING.  Don't even bother enabling it (unless you want consistent fps in the 20s and teens).  Stick with SMAA, or FXAA.
As for system spec...yeah, you're gonna want to stay away from 'Very High'.  'High' is the sweet spot for most of your 'Advanced Graphics' settings.

When you first see the nano-dome in all it's surreal glory, you can't help but just stand still for a minute...

The character models and animation are just superb...

You can almost see every pore on Psycho's face.

...and those lighting/shadowing/particle effects. WOW!  (yeah, its the little things :laughing7: )
Yes...I tend to geek out a little when the graphical detail is this good.
These are my settings that give the most consistent performance...here and here.  You might be able to get away with higher settings at lower resolutions.

Thank you Crytek, for pushing the envelope even further....even on the console versions.
CryEngine3 is boss.  Probably even better than Frostbite 2.0.

WTF???

Go in the naughty corner.....

Crysis 2 was boss.....and the campaign was all there was to it really....the MP never quite picked up.

Campaign was short too......how could you not finish that boy? smh

I enjoyed it enough to warrant giving part 3 a run.....though I'm not super excited....so don't mind waiting until it's reasonably priced.

Is it just me.....or do other gamers on here see those reviews as spoilers?

Rather just check the meta rating and go in blind....not knowing what to expect. lol

Same thing I am thinking, I just avoid game reviews as of lately.

I'm just about an hour in and this game really started off really good, I am still hoping that it stays that way.

Interesting take on the 'graphics vs gameplay dichotomy' that exists in opinions today... http://techreport.com/blog/24434/those-next-gen-games-yeah-one-just-arrived

I happen to lean on the side of graphics...the gameplay just won't be that 'immersive' or 'compelling' to me with shitty textures, or no AA/AF.  :)
It's the reason why I continue to spend (sometimes unnecessary) gobs of money on PC upgrades.

So I guess that it goes without saying that I agree with the author...wholeheartedly.  (+)

For me it'll be more on the gameplay side, usually don't have the time to stop and admire the scenery.

On a scale of 1 to 10 i would weigh it as 7 gameplay, 3 graphics.

When it comes to graphics and game play, I don't think they need to be mutually exclusive.

I want my cake and would like to eat it too.

Put down the original dota because I couldn't bare to look at the horrid graphics anymore. Thankfully, Valve gave us DOTA 2 in full 1080p glory.

It has EXACTLY the same game play of the original dota. All that has been changed is the graphics.

Epic

Far Cry 3 was beautiful and the game play was spot on. Luckily as gamers, I don't think we have a shortage of games that do both right. Win win

Those Crysis 3 screenshots in the article are breathtaking btw.

I still don't understand why people refer to Crysis 2 as mediocre. Thought the game was good personally. As a plus, it raises my hopes for Crysis 3.

Well THIS is interesting... http://www.gamespot.com/news/crytek-teases-major-crysis-3-announcement-tomorrow-6409006   :)

Quote
Crytek will make a "major" Crysis 3 announcement tomorrow, the developer said today through its social channels.

"Stay tuned for a special Crysis 3 announcement tomorrow," Crytek said on Facebook. "In the words of Nomad: 'We're going back."

PLEASE let it be a Lingshan Islands side story DLC.  THAT I would pay for.

I read the article arc posted.

I'm a huge graphics monger. I love me some high end graphics as evident by the pc I running.
But game play is extremely important. Not just game mechanics, but the game as a whole. The story, the atmosphere the acting, both motion and voice. It all comes together to make stellar games.

I just finished playing uncharted 2 and 3.
Both are graphically inferior to many PC games I've played, and part 3 has alto more graphics than 2. But i preferred 2 in the end because overall it was a better game despite the lower graphics.

Having said that, I can play a graphically inferior game and enjoy d hell out of it. But i cant play a game with go s of graphics (crisis 2) but sucks otherwise. I try to sink my teeth in cry2 many times but it just aunt happening. From reading the article it seems cry3 is alto better so go give that one a try.

Games do still have to have at least acceptable graphics though, but pretty alone is not enough for me.

Edit:

Just watched sessler's review, looks like ill be skipping crisis 3 as well. His sentiments about the crisis series is exactly how I feel. Such good technical prowess, but game design, story, etc, just suck.

Hmmm...it's a toss-up (kinda).

I'll have to give the (very) slight edge to Crysis 3 because the environments are more varied, and the colour gamut is wider.

Last Light seems to have better close-up textures though...especially when SSAA is turned on.
