This is messed up, I've always wondered how I will protect my future kids from porn at a young age. My wife was telling me that it is quite common for very young children to be watching this stuff.

Jamie was ten years old when he saw his first pornographic sex scene. During a sleepover, a classmate offered to show him ‘some funny pictures’ on his laptop.
‘At first I found it a bit scary and a bit yucky,’ Jamie told me as he shifted uncomfortably on his chair during our therapy session.
‘I didn’t know it was possible for people to do those sort of things — and there were lots of nasty close-ups. But it gave me funny feelings and the pictures started to stick in my head.’

For the next three years, while his parents assumed he was using his computer for his homework, Jamie visited porn websites for up to two hours a night.
Even when his school performance began to suffer, they had no idea of the murky world their shy, quiet son was inhabiting while upstairs in his bedroom.
While it’s not his real name, Jamie is typical of the young men I meet. He explained: ‘The websites led me to other websites and soon I was looking at even weirder stuff I could never have imagined — animals, children, stabbing and strangling.
‘I stopped leaving my room and seeing my friends because when I was away from the pornography, I was dying to get back to see what else I could find.’

And it was only when the police came knocking one morning that Jamie’s secret life was exposed.
After identifying that someone in the house was accessing child porn, they took Jamie’s laptop away for examination.  Jamie is only 13 — and he still hasn’t even kissed a girl, let alone had sex.
Though he is only a child himself, the result is that he has been put on the Sex Offender Register, blighting his life for the foreseeable future.

I take issue with this line.

Look at in Trinidad. You've got thousands of kids with laptops in school. One idiot has a stash of nrop and decides to show the class.

Very little a parent can do about that.

The kid gets a copy and stores it on his PC. Hides the folder. Parents odds of finding are slim.

Unless they are IT analysts or such.

I have always applauded google, yahoo, etc... for making x rated material off limits by default. More methods like these are required to keep inappropriate material out of young hands. Making it readily available and then blaming parents for not being omnipresent to stop their kids from accessing nrop is poor. very poor.

Exactly, even if you don't allow young children to have internet access there are so many other ways for them to access this material. It comes down to having open discussions with kids and freely discussing these issues. No matter how good you think you are at monitoring your kids there will always be ways for them to hide things. I think the game has changed a bit now with online pornography since it is so easily accessed and copying it takes literally two clicks of a mouse.

We've seen many things change in the information age and this is one of them. When I was a kid I didn't even know these things existed, now some children are watching it daily :s

Don't let me get started on gore videos, if I was a kid and saw one of those I might have gotten messed up. Even as an adult when I see videos like that it truly disturbs me.

and if say, 10% of the parents nowadays do a stellar (near impossible) job and keep their kids away from this stuff....their kids still have to face the other 90% who have been influenced by nropraghic material.

hell yes there are many source of information to help protect them and their kids from the sick stuff found on the internet.

On a side note porn is not that bad, it's where i got most of my techniques from, Order.

Porn being good or bad is a whole other discussion lol. Though porn at such a young age, not feeling too good about that one nah.

There needs to be some education directed at parents. At the end of the day yahoo, google, ISPs etc will never be able to do enough to limit a child's exposure to inappropriate material. Because that would require wholesale internet censorship, which should never happen.

Parents need to be educated on how to make the computers as safe as is practical through responsible usage habits, parental software etc.

This will never happen either. I think the most likely solution/scenario is as each generation becomes more tech savvy (and having done it all themselves) they would be more aware of the techniques or methods required to educate (and monitor) their children.

There are still parents out there who have a hard time speaking to their children about anything and dare not even mention s-e-x out loud.

I think it comes down to having the whole birds-and-bees talk. That should include pron. For too long now ppl have been passing the buck with respect to sex education. I've always been of the opinion that it should start at home and be reinforced by church and school.

And before anyone says that "that's just encouraging them", be real... Do ppl "need encouragement" to shag? I know I don't.

Seriously, it's a case as mentioned before of taking the time to educate them on the results of what they indulge in. All the crazy stuff you see now with the younger folk when it comes to dancing etc. it makes me scared of having children.

Putting serious steps in place as a parent to at least prevent the ease of a curious young mind to indulge in it to me is a good start...
