Transgender Miss Universe may be able to compete after all

Next time you watch Miss Universe you might have to do a double take :p

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2012/04/transgender-miss-universe-may-be-able-to-compete-after-all-/1#.T3sOTqtSSZY

After being disqualified last month as a finalist from the upcoming Miss Universe Canada pageant, Jenna Talackova, 23, could soon be back in the competition.

The Miss Universe Organization announced Monday that it might reverse an earlier decision and allow Talackova, 23, who was born male, to enter the 61st Miss Universe Canada pageant in May.

The rules of the contest run by Donald Trump's New York City-based organization say entrants must be "naturally born" females. Talackova underwent a sex change four years ago.

Bill O'Reilly voiced his opinion  in favor of Talackova's right to compete on Friday. And on Monday, Talackova announced plans for a news conference today in Los Angeles with high-profile lawyer Gloria Allred. Soon after, the Miss Universe Organization said in a statement on the Miss Universe Canada website that Talackova can compete "provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions."

The statement did not elaborate and messages seeking clarification from Miss Universe organizers were not immediately returned, reports AP.

Talackova lawyer Joe Arvay said the statement about Canadian "legal gender recognition" requirements makes no sense, and told AP it is "incomprehensible."

Arvay said the pageant requirement for "natural born" females does not comply with Canadian human rights legislation and that a complaint will be filed with the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Allred's office said its news conference is still proceeding as planned.

Talackova does have a pageant track record. She competed in the 2010 Tiffany Miss International Queen Competition for transgendered and transsexual women in Pattaya, Thailand. In a video interview for that pageant, she said she had lived her life as a female since age 4, began hormone therapy at 14 and changed sex at 19.

"I regard myself as a woman with a history," she said.

I don't have a problem with ppl of 'alternate' genders, I DO however not agree with the fact that she lied about her birth which I'd a violation of the rules. Even if they change the rules to suite now, she should remain disqualified.

Don't particularly like the idea of transsexuals in Miss Universe.
That said though, as a principle I see no reason to discriminate against anyone for any reason, be it race, gender, sexual orientation. So I'll go with principle and say let her compete.

I dont think its fair. Is basically a man competing in the MISS universe. Bottom line of the story.

If you were born male or female, regardless how u look at the age of 25, you are still the gender you were born as imo

Look, this should settle this once and for all: The ONE rule of Ms. Universe is that you have to be BORN a woman. That is a quote from the Donald himself.

You guys know Donald... That guy who, you know, OWNS the whole Ms. Universe shebang?

Touchy subject indeed. Even after surgery are you really a different sex? I looked at some youtube videos about it and I'd say not quite....

Check out this update.

Transgender beauty queen Jenna Talackova tells 20/20, ‘I knew I was in the wrong body’ as a child

Canadian Miss Universe contestant says she was bullied, describes ' painful' sex change surgery

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/transgender-beauty-queen-jenna-talackova-tells-20-20-i-knew-i-wrong-body-a-child-article-1.1058283?localLinksEnabled=false

The Canadian transgender beauty queen who battled Donald Trump in order to compete in the mogul's Miss Universe pageant says she knew she was "in the wrong" body when she was just four years old.

In an appearance on ABC News' 20/20 on Friday, Jenna Talackova, who was born a boy, said she was called "tranny" and "it" by bullies at school after she decided to start hormone treatment at age 14, People magazine reported.

The 23-year-old underwent a sex-change surgery four years ago, and also had breast implants and her Adam's apple removed in order to complete her transformation from a boy named "Walter" to a leggy model named "Jenna."

"It was terribly painful," Talackova told host Barbara Walters about the sex change operation.

"But seeing something on your body for that long and not being able to look at myself in the mirror because I couldn't stand seeing the other part, it was actually very rewarding, too."

Talackova made national headlines after it came to light that Miss Universe Canada organizers had booted her from the upcoming pageant citing a rule that only "naturally born females" can compete.

The Trump-owned organization backpedaled last Monday, saying that Talackova could compete "provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions."

Talackova and her lawyer, Gloria Allred, have urged Trump to cut the bull and state clearly that the Vancouver stunner is back in.

The beauty queen told ABC News she hoped publicity from the spat would help end discrimination against transgender men and women.

"I feel like the universe, the creator just put me in this position as an advocate," she said.

"If it's helping anybody else, my story and my actions, then I feel great about it."
