The next PlayStation may not play well with pre-owned video games, according to a report from Kotaku , which writes that the successor to the PS3 may tie video games to a PlayStation Network account and require online activation to play. The next PlayStation, which one might assume could eventually be called the PlayStation 4, is currently codenamed "Orbis," according to the report.
Yeah. This looks like you need a 'key' to be able to play period, just like Steam, whether single or multiplayer. I'm guessing that this may be implemented for discs, as well as digital. In one fell swoop, there goes any potential resale value, unless they also implement a 'transfer fee' of sorts, so you can sell, or maybe trade, your game after you're done with it. Wow... I now study something else. No more game rentals either. You either buy it, or you don't. Bye bye GameflySwiftKeyed from my Samsung Galaxy S2 with Tapatalk

Sony is learning. Each iteration is getting more difficult to hack than the last one. To successfully use a hack, and remain online? Nope, not gonna happen.
