I understand your point - But it's for my mom to use. So it needs to be SIMPLE - simple enough for a cat or baby to use. The android OS doesn't strike me as simple to navigate and plus its laggish in my opinion as compared to iOS.

She just learnt how to text so that's a 1up on communications.

True, though android isn't that bad once you set it up right. You can change the launcher to make it closer to ios as well

She doesn't have to go deep under the hood into the technical stuff.

What about Kindle Fire? it is cheap and designed for precisely users like her.

Great great points BUT to start my argument I'll say it's an APPLE.   need I say more?

She may end up under the hood for connecting to wifi etc.

She'll mainly use it for photos, email, watching vids (youtube), notes, calendar and contacts. Also for skype or facetime. All the things iOS does in a simple fashionable manner. Plus i'll be able to access her calendar or upload photos from my PC with EXTREME ease.

I'm one sided anyhow because I havn't used android for more than 1 day and I also have an iPhone 4 which makes life more efficient across many many MANYYYY communication platforms.

Plus I know the iOS layout almost by heart so it'll be easier for me to guide her through a task without being there in person.

So I'm looking to get an iPad2 without jumping through someone's window while pretending to be Che Guevara.

If push comes to shove, shoot and stab then I'll have to shell out for a new iPad 3 for her.


I've used the Kindle Fire and it's also lagging in the swiping etc. It's not as efficient or aesthetically pleasing as the iPad.

The kindle fire is a proprietary Android tablet at best don't UAE that as a good indicator of what a proper Android tablet should work like. I've used iosb devices and wp7 and Android and quite honestly its all comparable.
If she is only going to be doing the simple tasks you've described then and platform would work tbh. Apple is Good product no doubting that, but for many that know better, its mostly hype

well the misses has an ipad 2 and she loves it, so it is worth the money. If you can afford it, drop the coin and you will not regret the purchase.

If you're hard up for dollars, the kindle fire is cheap....and functional. Not phenomenal, but functional.

Any other android tablet that can compete with the ipad 2 will likely still carry a similar price tag. US$450+
