Advice on i5-2500k temps

so my system is finally up and running and i was wondering if any1 can educate me on when does the temperature become dangerous for this? according to cpuid and Coretemp progs my temps can reach 98°C. It idles at 40°c but usually is around 76 - 88°C when gaming using the Intel stock fan that came with it(which i know is prob bad) but is my only choice to get a cooling solution? if so can i source a good one down here? i was thinking about going with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler

The intel turbo boost is pushing it up to 4.6 Ghz while you game. Thats the only thing i can think of. So you need to disable the turbo boost. It acts like a temporary overclock while the system is under load. Higher clock = higher temp
OR if you already overclocked in manually, like what your profile is suggesting at 4.3 ghz, i suggest a better cooler yes. No A/C in the room? Another thing to check is to make sure your airflow inside the case is good, i.e. no haphazard wires all of the place blocking and restricting airflow. Check your fan directions as well, make sure you have a good pull to push ratio if that makes sense. Other thing would be the thermal compound you used. The crap paste they give you with the cpu is gunz. Might want to look at switchin thermal compound when/if u get a new cooler.
Still think its the turbo boost IF you have that installed and enabled of course.

i havent overclock it as yet so i'll check the turbo boost...the wire placements are extremely good to ensure there is no airflow restrictions. i'll check it out and post back ty

Running the same CPU in my rig, can't rem the temps off-hand cause I'm in work now but I took down the max boosting of the cpu speed under load to about 3.3-3.4GHz and that gave me good temps. Yes I'm still using the crappy stock cooler.
If you want to be racing along at 4.3GHz I'd also suggest as the guys above me did getting different paste and cooler. I'm getting this one when I manage to grab some money

^^ That Frio is a very good choice of cooler.
But with respect to the temps you are getting, it sounds like your cooler be it stock or not isnt making proper contact to your CPU's surface. If you are sure of this, then have you checked your BIOS settings with respect to the CPU FAN settings.

You can probably just make sure that your stock cooler is properly installed. While you're at it,apply some better thermal paste and see if the situation improves. If not, time to investigate reconfiguring your case cooling methods (add fans, change configuration) to reduce your ambient temp.
If these attempts yield no better result, time to change case and cooler. What case you have btw?

As someone who has usef a WIDE range of coolers, and probably read more cooler reviews than the gods, 40C idle and the corresponding load temps you're getting there seems pretty normal for the stock cooler.
Of course, idle temp is one thing. Load temp is where you need to concentrate your efforts.
Cheapest solution before you buy another cooler? Apply some better thermal paste. Make sure and remove the stock thermal paste first though.
