I don't hate the man. Hell, I don't even know him. I just dislike him intensely, and all that he stands for because of his attitude.

I'm allowed to dislike him right? ...because like that is a crime in this country.

Still, Wyatt is absolutely right. The man is a boss. But Wyatt... It's just that he's such an insufferable douche. Anytime I see Machel, I actually cross the road because when whoever decides that they want to buss his head for whatever manifestation of assholery that may prompt it, I want to be nowhere near him. ...and is it just me, or are soca bands just outright 'cheating' now? I noticed the almost across-the-board use of a backing track with vocals embedded. To me it makes the music sound a lot less 'organic'. Just another 'evolution' of soca I suppose. :/

Arc, Wyatt is still right. This is not the "General discussion of Machel" thread. This is the Soca monarch 2012 thread and Machel won, swell-headedness notwithstanding. I don't disagree with you, btw. I'm just pointing what is more relevant to this thread which would mean that Wyatt ultimately has a point.

Your remarks on the "cheating" stuff now... That's worth looking into. Srsly, that's what's happening? I haven't really paid attention to the competition over the last couple years.

Well Q, I've heard from a reliable source that the contest is somewhat "fixed", i.e. they pretty much know who's going to win before they even perform. Another point made by a lecturer who randomly brought up the competition while old talkin with the class last week was that all the text we text to vote for who we want to win is pretty much where bmobile/digicel make back up their expenses in advertising. Im not sure, but do they even release the text vote final count? I've never seen nor heard anyone mention it before =/

If someone could find a link or source for that it would be nice.

@ Virtue, I'd be really interested in hearing what the final vote count was myself. Its like what? $2.00 to send in a text to support your fav artiste.

Those should be some serious figures indeed.

Its a popular method to "cash in" abroad and you know how trinis like to follow suit. Digicel must have made a real killing with that and their risings stars show.

afaik, those text votes account for a percentage of the final score. Anyone know how much?

1st Place – KI with 36,737 text votes

2nd Place – Rikki Jai with 32,731 votes

Was at Mania last night, saw Kes and Machel perform and tbh Kes was the better performer.

When Machel came on I moved from the front of the crowd to all the way at the back by the bar because it was like "Meh". Also noticed the man stopped for a min to catch his breath but vocals were still heard
