Interesting Restaurants in Trinidad?
« on: February 12, 2012, 12:35:49 AM »
Hey Folks,

I love trying out different types of cuisine and Trinidad definitely has a decent selection of restaurants. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on different restaurants, anything other than the usual TGIF/Ruby Tuesdays?

I went to Sonata Korean Restaurant at #34 Murray St, Woodbrook. The food was great though a bit pricey. They cook the food in front of you kinda like Benihana. Took a short video too :p

lol @ usual TGIF/Ruby Tuesdays

Chaud
Smell yet bouge restaurant around the savannah. They have valet parking if yuh please. Very expensive. Food is pretty good but the portions are a bit small (usually the case with bouge restaurants anyway)

Bamboo Mile in Tobago near Pigeon Point (Try their Tamarind Pork, bess)

Texas De Brazil CHURRASCARIA
Tons of meat and more meat. If you're a carnivore, can't go wrong. They just keep bringing the stuff to your table non stop (well unless you flip over this little circular card they give you to indicate that you've had enough). Interesting concept. Top of the line decor and service. Expect to put out about $600 a person if you go for the meat. Half that if you're vegetarian....but then whats the point of going to a Churrascaria if not for the meat.

Paprika
One of my favourites. Easy to miss, along the western main road, cocorite. Its styled in four different themes from around the world. Food and service is great.

You can also make the rounds at the Fiesta Plaza, MovieTowne which includes Woodford Cafe, Trader Jack, Zanzibar, J Malones and more.

Botticelli at Grand Bazaar (Wicked Salmon)

Il colosseo
Italian  style. Not sure if they are still in woodbrook , haven't been in a while but they also had a bess salmon (yeah, I real like to order the salmon, lol). Plus a GATT member was a chef there.

If you're looking for the "get away" vibes down  Chaguaramas  there is The Light House at Crews Inn and "The Bite" at  power boats. The light house is the more upscale of the two. So you could choose according to your pocket.

For chinese, you've got "Me Asia, Eagles, Stir Fry King" all in the woodbrook area. Singho is also very popular upstairs Long Circular Mall

Authentic Indian cuisine can be found at Apsara's around the Savannah (belmont side)
The misses has me hooked on their naan bread

Jenny's in South and Port of Spain. Known for their steak but strangely enough I go there for the chinese food. lol

La Boucan at Hilton.
Not high on my list but they have this great deal going around where you get complimentary meals and hotel stay.  Altogether, a great package.

Saved the best for last.

Irie Bites
Jerk at its finest. Mouth watering just thinking about it.

Hyatt
The Waterfront Restaurant.
Pricey, but everything I've had their tasted bess. Down to the breakfast.

Well the misses ain't into partying, so we do restaurants instead

You'd be surprised to know that its cheaper! (well except for the ultra expensive ones like Chaud and Prime)

And since my PC didn't cost an arm and a leg like some people (cough arc cough cough)

@ Arc, For under $150....that would be irie bites

Can't go wrong with their jerk.  Cheap and bess

You could also come away from Jenny's with something decent for that price. Take-Away especially.

As some added encouragement woody, check out a picture of the tamarind pork @ bamboo mile. yum yum

I personally prefer Cold Stone or Marble Slab. Haagen Daaz is like diabetus a le ice cream. Just tooo damn sweet. Cold Stone and Marble Slab's ice cream are more creamy and just right imo. There are some flavours that Hageen Daaz has that are slightly better than the others but other than that, I'd go else where.

Great list, I'd add China Dynasty to that Chinese list.

Also Prime has decent service but is expensive.

Buzo also has decent Italian food and the prices on their pizzas not bad.

I'll try Texas De Brazil sometime.

I just want to know which ones I don't need a loan to patronise.

For churrascarria  also try Ipanema on Victoria Ave, expensive tho

'The Bight' is now a Zanzibar

Also try Sails next door, they have escargot, prices not bad. More of a laid back liming spot.

Not exactly fine dining restaurants, but...

Nothing beats a nice box of BBQ from the south.
Sitting down in the outdoors in Duncan Village @ the BBQ place next door to where South Sea restaurant was.

Or the big big tent on the way to Jenny's wok side.

Lace the box with heavy bbq sauce and garlic, pepper, lawwd I hungry right now.

(I forget the exact names of the places, if someone could remind me :P)
