Well this has to be the most ridiculous statement made for the year thus far:

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Xbox-One-PlayStation-4-IGNITE-Frostbite-Rajat-Taneja,22756.html#xtor=RSS-998

Man says the PS4 and Xbox One are superior to gaming PCs yes. Madness.

@ Messiaah, there is a nice blurb at the end of the article that shares my opinion on the progress of the mobile market.

Quote
It should be obvious: the PC market continues to progressively advance whereas new consoles are launched every five or so years. If anything, it's the mobile industry that the PC and console sectors should be worried about, as its advancement slope if by far a lot steeper than the PC segment.

TW...take a read of this... http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/the-guns-of-navarro-microsoft-s-one-track-mind/1100-4648/

I won't ask Messiaah to read it, because his mind is more or less made up already.

I think this writer captures the psychology that lies at the root of the backlash.

See this part...

Quote
As bad as Microsoft's messaging was, it was especially fatal given the overall tone and tenor of the event--one of absolute, unflappable confidence. Again, as much as you might not have liked the content of the Microsoft presentation, its laserlike focus on the features it believed were most important to the mainstream audience felt consistent with a company that acted like it had nothing to prove. Even Don Mattrick, who has often presented a stiffer, less slick stage presence to previously over-groomed executives like J Allard, seemed completely in his element. Microsoft was talking like a company that felt it had all the momentum going into E3, and foresaw no scenario in which that would change, thanks to its various new innovations.

...yeah,  it's something that I hinted at in the Windows 8 thread.  That overconfidence and almost singular lack of consideration for what consumers want.
M$ seems to have the attitude of late that speaks to a desire to tell us consumers 'THIS is what you want, and you'll like it too.'

Who doh hear, does feel.

Arc, at d end of d day if they still making they money you feel them care?

If MS knocks it out the park at E3, it wouldn't even matter, everybody buying d same Xbox, just like you using d same windows 8. MS may be overconfident, but so far it eh slow Dem down, they still making a mint, so u mite call it overconfidence, they call it a winning strategy.

Since the launch of the Xbox MS said they want to take over the living room, and that's exactly what they doing.
At d end of d day if it works, they don't care what the internet says because is them same ppl going to buy d same products they cussing.

But like I said, once they bring games at E3, gamers should have nothing to complain about.
I don't care if MS came on stage and played dance dance Central for d whole conference, if at d end of d day I can get my games on the box, that's all that matters to me. If they have no games then Xbox One = Fail.
If they have d games, conference , arrogance, overconfidence, a host of tv and entertainment features, who cares?

Now let me put another spanner in the works, for all d exclusives Sony have, watch the sale figures comparison, this is why MS don't give a hoot and pushing their entertainment agenda, cause they know ppl going to buy they shit:

Xbox
Halo 3 : 11.77m
Halo 4 : 8.26m
Halo Reach : 9.43m
Gears 3 :5.9m
Gears 2 : 6.62m
Gears 1 : 6.0m
Fable 2 : 4.12m
Fable 3 : 4.92

PlayStation
Uncharted 3 : 5.8m
Uncharted 2 : 6.18m
Uncharted : 4.57m
Killzone 3 : 2.46m
Killzone 2 : 2.9
Killzone : 0.94
Infamous : 2.61m
Infamous 2 : 1.57m

Those numbers are self explanatory. And we all know there is going to be a kickass halo on the X-1.

Great read over at that article arc.

It touches on both sides of the equation.

This paragraph from it is basically sharing my sentiment on the issue.

Quote
Some of the anger toward Microsoft's event is genuinely unwarranted, specifically because the company had been quite up-front about the fact that this conference was for a broader, mainstream audience. The event the core audience was hoping for, the one with lots of games and less talk about ancillary things like TV signals and NFL partnerships, would be coming at E3.

And this article speaks to the future of gaming consoles

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/xbox-one-gaming/

Again, I agree

^^ yuh know, lolol.

@wyatt, I agree with that as well, from up front MS tell ppl what to expect from this one.
And d fact they did it so close to E3 was good too, because people don't have long to wait to see s second half of they conference.

What go be interesting though is if Sony going to show back d same thing they already show, or if they some how have more new games to show. What if Sony already lay d cards on d table and have nothing new for E3?

And should we be having this convo here or in d E3 thread?

lol @ averse to discussion

Reaper, I am sure E3 will bring a lot more fodder to the fore for discussion but we have quite a bit to chew on right now (as is evident)

The internet is livid with activity since the reveal. This is the coming of the next generation after all. Men must be anxious after waiting 7 - 8 years for it to happen.

Will the Xbox One Automate Your House?

 May 28, 2013 | By Microsoft News

In a recent interview, Marc Whitten, Microsoft’s chief production officer of interactive entertainment, talked about the future of the Xbox One.  He shared his vision for a platform he calls Home 2.o, a service that will become the hub for all your interconnected devices. While Whitten notes this is still 3 – 5 years down the line, he imagines that Home 2.0 will allow the One to be more than an entertainment device for your living room….

source

Also, another thing to throw in the pot.
I'd argue that MS has been leading the way for innovation in the gaming industry since the launch of the Xbox OG and Sony has been basically following. For e.g. you only get Playstation Plus after MS pioneered Xbox Live.
And i'd argue that all the entertainment features MS touting now, will be eventually adopted by sony as well. Netflix for instance is a highly used app on playstaion.

I had real high hopes for digital homes with the advent of the x10 line of cheap home automation kits and both google and microsoft entering the digital energy metering game. Never quite caught on and both Microsoft and Google have since abandoned their efforts in the metering business.

Still, nice to see it is still on the radar.

Two things.

1. I think that article making it sound worse than it really is.

2. Sad thing is, MS is right, people will buy anything. They still buy the s line of apple products in droves even though is d same dam device, and ppl will spend full retail on that. Xbox is in the same place I think and people will still buy it regardless. But like I said, personally I don't care about MS attitude once I get d games. And in saying that MS does have a point. Because once they bring d games, d core gamers will know about it and buy d system. And for all d non core gamers, they pushing entertainment. A win win.

Just a reminder on Microsoft and marketing. X1 was revealed just like the rest, all with features we originally didn't really understand at the time, or think we cared about or needed. Online on console? wah? Connected with my friends? they right up the road.

(Can start at 1:50 for 360 reveal)

SAME thing for 360 reveal. Words like "Entertainment" and "World of experiences" and "customized" - things we essentially didn't really think we needed or cared about in 2005. All we wanted was games. Wireless controllers were frowned on because of previous 3rd party ones with input lag issues.

Its hilarious how the new Kinect is making people jumpy, when it was the SAME reaction people had to ipad 2's front camera with men putting tape on the front and wanting a "security" light. It even have sites that could "disable" the camera or remove it for you
http://www.ifixyouri.com/ipad-2-repair/359-ipad-2-front-camera-removal-service.html

Right now its a pretty damn dangerous time for the game industry. AAA titles alone is not going to cut it if you want to see more AAA games. They just not selling (give or take a few) at the numbers we need to generate to make MORE AAA titles. We need another medium to drive and help finance the games. I've been at the top of the world in terms of gaming sales success to the crappiest places where we fail abysmally.

I understand we always want more, but I think trashing something in games at the moment without having all the facts or knowing what we are buying is silly. If what we saw at BOTH reveals was the info we had to walk into a store with when buying the console I could totally understand confusion. But that is not the case.

We have a LOT of months ahead before the consoles are out. I think we should spend the time realizing how fucking awesome launches and new platforms are and where we could go with that. Hell I'm excited.
