Rage...take our stupid advice and stay away from hire-purchase as much as you can.

You'll really save a lot more in the long run.

The only time you should go down the HP road, is if the bank refuses to give you a loan.

Looking forward to seeing what your research unveils.

Do share your progress. Keenly interested.

Well we were suggesting the loan as opposed to hire purchase because the interest that you will end up paying, is going to be much greater (a 36 month HP plan ends up with you paying more than double the cost of the item originally, while a 24 month bank loan, with interest rates at the level they are, means you'll only pay like 20% more than the borrowed amount).

A friend of mine recently had to take a loan for 15K (for surgery), and the interest that had to be repaid on it over 2 years would come up to under 3K.

Not to mention then you'll most likely have extra cash to do other tasks if so required.

What? Did I read that right? A Loan for SURGERY?? What the hell...

surgery is expensive, especially at any reputable medical center. What's strange about that?

Not everyone wanna roll the dice with their life in the public system.

Quick question. Is it possible to have a PC output video through HDMI and audio through desktop speakers?

Or is a receiver required? I'm new to the whole home theater game.

yeah, that's how I have mine setup at the moment.

PC -> TV (DVI - HDMI cable)

PC -> Logitech Z5500 (Optical cable)

Well, dental surgery, a particularly difficult one...public system couldn't have even dreamt of doing it. The loan needed really was 10k, but for the current loan specials they have going on, 15K is the minimum.

ok cool. i assume if the speakers used doesn't have optical out that a direct connection will work fine?

and what's the advantage of optical over direct?

Yeah, I actually have it hooked up via direct (analog) and optical at the same time

because the Z5500 bad like that.

It comes with its only mini receiver which supports optical, digital coax and analog.

So why use the analog you might ask??

Turns out, most TVs do not pass 5.1 surround data through their optical out port. Only OTA (over the air) signals make it through with the full encoding in tact. All other sources (like your PS3, PC, etc....) get dumbed down to stereo.

Lame

So to circumvent that, my PC is connected to the Logitech Z5500 with analog in addition to the optical.  (Left and Right  Front, Left and Right Rear, Center and Sub)

You can switch to whichever input you would like to use with the remote control unit.

Which speakers you planning to connect to your new TV?

well i'm not looking to spend much, so i was considering getting a Z-5300e used from OC (if he still has it). should be good enough for the hour. i have a Z-5500 connected to my desktop, but i'd rather used them for gaming as opposed to movies.

I have my Z5500's hooked via Optical directly to my TV, whatever inputs are going into the TV, be it the PS3, Xbox, Laptop via HDMI, I get Surround sound from the Optical once I switch Inputs on the TV...
