WTK a Good LAN Party Racing game

I'm a LAN Party organiser (small scale 24 people MAX) and we usually play DOTA1, COD4, Halo1, Quake 3 arena etc.

All the Guys are avid racing game fans, but I've yet to find a proper racing game. here are my requirements.

1. Must be able to support 18-30 players.

2. Must have Rally stages (Circuit racing gets old very fast)

3. A Mario kart, Twisted Metal style combat would be a bonus.

4. Simple IP based LAN .....no need for Hamachi/VPN etc.

5. Car variety with "same car for all option"

6. Replays

That is a VERY tall order.

Last good "sweat" LAN racer I could recall is Re-Volt.



I'm a huge fan of the Mario Kart type racers but they are sorely under represented on the PC platform.

Had high hopes for Blur but that didn't seem to gain any traction at all.

Let's hope they release a Transformers themed combat racer in the not too distant future with LAN play.

not sure if it fits the bill but there is the need for speed franchise.

Heard that hot pursuit was actually ok. pretty cheap on amazon now too. not sure if it fits your desires though.

Well, there's Race Driver GRiD from Codemasters.  Fantastic LAN options, but I think the max for races is 8 players.

There's also Toca Race Driver 3, also from Codemasters.  8 players max as well I believe.

Check those out.

Not sure if there are any racers that support the number of players you want though.

The only thing i ever came across that is capable of covering all those requirements except no. 3 is rFactor. It's a hardcore simulator so you won't have any of those arcade stuff, it's perfect for any avid racer.

Combat is not really needed it's just that as friends we always try to kill each other!!

i've heard that trackmania is good u get it on stream for free, i haven't gotten chance to try it out myself yet so i'm not sure as to the number of players and how the cars handle and so on but i've seen it getting good reviews..

One or two people played Trackmania but it didn't sit well with the masses.

No hit detection at all. You just drove through the other players like ghosts. That was a deal breaker for me personally. Like my racers with some bang. lol

I definitely need collision detection as most of us in D LAN would want to run people off D road....or cause pile ups!! That's where revenge races stem from!
