you really have that doing nothin virtue?? looks like the good start of a gaming rig!
as for the media server. I use a desktop myself but its very inefficient. Used a laptop before (much more conservative in terms of energy consumption)
Only changed it to a desktop because I wanted to play some games on the big screen and could have slapped in a graphics card to achieve that goal.
My recommendation, get an old laptop or netbook if possible. Use an external HD attached for more storage.
