HTC Edge/One-X: First Quad-Core Phone Revealed
« on: November 07, 2011, 06:11:43 PM »

Meet the HTC Edge: reportedly the company's first -- and probably one of the world's first -- cellphone powered by a quad-core processor.
Information from a reliable source paints Edge as a premium handset incorporating the latest mobile technologies -- for the most part.

The 4.7-inch Edge will allegedly be slightly over ten millimeters thick, and appears to be very much the successor to the just-unveiled Rezound/Vigor, as it should feature the same 720p resolution, 1GB of RAM, and backlit eight-megapixel camera with 28-millimeter, f/2.2 lens. The major improvement, then, would be Edge's supposed AP30 Tegra 3 CPU from Nvidia, which offers four 1.5GHz cores to Rezound's two. Internal storage will likely be bumped to 32GB, while the Bluetooth radio should hit version 4.0. Naturally, Beats Audio enhancements would be part of the package.

Edge may also see the rollout of new or improved HTC content services, such as the previously tipped HTC Listen music store, HTC Read bookstore, and HTC Play gaming hub; the HTC Watch movie portal will reportedly begin to offer HD fare. Additionally, Edge could be one of the first Sense 4.0 devices.

One thing that wasn't mentioned was LTE capability, with Edge only said to support 21Mbps HSDPA; it's possible that carrier-specific variants will still offer this highly-desired functionality. Also absent was mention of a specific version of Android, although if it doesn't ship with Ice Cream Sandwich (fairly unlikely), an upgrade would surely be deployed in short order.

We're expecting Edge to arrive in late Q1/early Q2 of next year.

hmmm. i dunno. seems like unnecessary power for a phone. whatever i need to do that requires that much power, i could do on a desktop or laptop.

^ yeeeaaa I highly doubt that ..... they will put a considerable power pack in there plus Kal-el will have some power saving features built in

As for processing power on the go everything productivity wise I can do on my phone except visual studio when I don't have a desktop around

and I know alot of people who do the same plus with the increased power the scope of mobile apps could change so that they would be

pretty much the same as their counterparts on the pc which would in turn result in seamless integration between OS's and devices which

coincidentally is what Microsoft is pushing with windows 8...so I wouldn't be too surprised if they launch a cousin with Windows Phone 8 OS

Well I do believe that one day our PC will become none more than the size of a phone, connected to cloud services for EVERYTHING, so that we have a docking station to a monitor K&M and we game from the cloud, apps from the cloud and thats the utopia dream. However, in the more immediate future, as MS said multicore is not in the works for their phone platform yet I suspect we may only START seeing dual core Windows Phone 7/8 rather than Kal el.

It funny how big screen phones making a  comeback with phones shrinking in the past. My galaxy note has a 5.3 inch display and now I dunno if I could adjust to a smaller screen nah lol.

I am sure the battery life will be decent on the edge, more cores doesn't mean worse battery.

The man have the note yes. Good job. Sorry to say, but for all-plastic devices, I always find Samsung phones are too expensive.

Yeah, that 5.3' is a beast, no doubt about it.

Yeah it isn't perfect but definitely meets my expectations. Wanted something with a 5" + screen, decent camera and half decent battery life. It delivers in all those departments :)
