Personally, I would not underrate Tobago where tourism is concerned. Fantastic island paradise that it is. Many celebrities and foreigners visit our shores there. Let us not forget we are a twin island republic.

Carnival is no slouch either. You shouldn't write an article about tourism in this world and "dismiss" carnival as an "aside". He lost a little credibility there. That's like saying aside from the killings, rapes and kidnappings, Trinidad is a safe place to live. lol

Otherwise, the criticism had merit.

I think the main thing he was trying to get across though is that nobody in a position of power questioned who these people were, their credibility etc. If (big IF) money did not pass, who knows what kind of information was passed to them?

Is it the government's policy to go around accepting awards and taking pictures with random organizations? What if those people are Nazi sympathisers, in full support of the Holocaust??

@QuickDraw - the man have some trini background last i checked. Either lived here for a while or studied. Can't remember. And yes, i cannot stress how blessed and fortunate this nation is and how much people take what we have for granted.

I do not regret starting this thread off on the somewhat negative foot it was given, Arcmanov's post with the article "Who called Whom" and then Awesome's article post justifies that. But in light of that, the credit and my praise still goes out to those who work in these industries, it is truly not an easy task and i suppose it was some positive reinforcement to push the sector, as skewed as it may have been.

Only a handful of results come up, all reference Trinidad And Tobago Wins World's Best Tourist Destination in some way, including this very GATT thread. Either this organization goes under a different name or is very obscure indeed.

Touche sir lol. I do suppose it starts from the bottom up? Dunno how the disowning process works nowadays lol.
But again, it was just an example of the "jump on the bandwagon" mentality that a large majority of people do, and i may have been wrong in pinning it on Trini's alone, i'm sure it happens everywhere but it is very common here, at least to me. There's that whole concept of identifying with a group/brand but that's not for here.

I want to see what other statements are going to and have been made by the gov that we haven't already seen, read and heard.
