i'v noticed that since i upgraded my ram to 380mb from 256 games like CoD and halo are playing smoother, but with lots of sudden jerks  that i never had before...

i did some research on the chipset, i couldn't find any benchmarks using more than 128mb of ram, is it possible, that since all the ram slots on the board are full and the RAM limit of 512 is close, that too much ram is choking the system?

lol@too much ram..
is not that, you need to adjust the amount of memory the game can use.
press the tilde key, (~), then type com_hunkmegs    ...see what it says, and raise that value till you notice the jerkeyness stop. by default the value is 128, set that to something like 200.

and for halo, delete the config files, and restart the game. you may have to reinstall the game too though, but i really doubt. upon restarting the game it will auto detect and generate a new config file based on your new sys specs.

I remember back in 1985, well ok, not that long ago....but the point is, there were motherboards that ran slower with a lot of ram.

the TX chipset had that limitation due to the amount of cache ram installed on the board.

It typically could cache 64MB of system memory. If you were filthy rich and installed 128MB RAM, it would not have enough cache ram to handle that much and would disable caching altogether.

Result...a SLOWER performing computer, despite the copious amount of RAM.

ALL Your Base Are Belong to Cache.

Doubt that is the case now, I am sure intel learnt there lesson so many years ago. Can't see them repeating it with the i815.

In any event, sell that board for $200.00, add it to your us$280 budget and get an ATHlon 64 rig!!!

Most definitely! Gone are the days where adding beyond a certain amount of ram leads to a degredation in performance. Besides...d man talkin bout a quantity less than 512mb even...if was over den maybe I coulda understand, but 512 is almost like the norm nowadays...and the 815 chipset ain't that old.

maybe your board only likes brand name buffered RAM. no-name= no buffers
