No More Microsoft at CES?
« on: December 22, 2011, 05:51:18 AM »
So before GATT could make our debut at the Consumer Electronic Show, Microsoft decided to pull the plug on their substantial appearances there.

booo!!!

CES is only the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow. Why would Micrsoft not want to showcase their wares at such an event? Surely they can afford it.

Hmm intelligent speculation there. Anything is possible...except Microsoft ever having a significant presence in CES again it seems.

But even IF they were to go in January. What would they show off? Uh, well guys we're still working on Win8, we have nothing to show you yet but yeah, in a couple months we'll have a closed beta out.

Sorry to put a damper on things but as a commenter said, Trade shows today are much less effective than they were say 15-20 years ago when the internet was still very young. With the advent of things like broadband and livestreaming, the only real reason to go for one is the experience.

I was amped to go when GATT first started to organise a team to go but now, looking at my bank account and the above factor, im very likely to pass on this one.

Yeah, my sentiments exactly.

We will skip CES altogether for 2012.

Focus our efforts on attending E3 (June 5 - 7 Los Angeles) and EVO (July 6 - 8 Las Vegas)

Those should give us more gaming bang for our buck anyway.

While it may be undercut by XBOX 720 news....As a PC gamer first and foremost I'm interested in Windows 8 for Gaming....and I'm not a fan of Touch screen stuff...

I'd really like to see an xbox plugin for the pc that would essentially make your gaming pc into an xbox 720 or whatever it is, especially if the next gen is touted to be powerful enough to push pc-level graphics @ 1080p. Of course, you'd still have your standalone xbox but also this plugin (for which I dont mind paying) can achieve the following:

1) Blur the line between PC and console gaming. PC gamers can get a taste of the console exclusives without actually buying a console.

2) Expand their'xbox' user base meaning more gold accounts = more money

Of course, wont let PC's scoring below a certain WEI score install the plugin etc etc. Seems like win win to me.

Xbox Live for Windows 8 is confirmed

http://www.theverge.com/2011/09/15/windows-8-xbox-live-cross-platform-asynchronous-multiplayer-games/

There is a real sentiment amongst the Microsoft faithful that this will get Rid of Games for Windows live and give Steam a run for it's Life.

I'm Just gonnah say....to defeat Steam...you haddah come reeeeel Boss!!

I got really excited and then read this snippet on the link you posted

Quote
Perhaps most excitingly, Microsoft's pledging support for turn-based multiplayer games that work across Windows 8, Xbox, and Windows Phone alike.

WTF @ turn based???

I was thinking Halo 4 on PC and xbox 360/720 akin to what Awesome mentioned above.

Well I read somewhere Windows 8 might have Xbox 360 emulation. Not confirmed could be just a rumour but it would be nice.
