The Imax Experience
« on: July 27, 2011, 09:19:31 PM »
Hey folks,

Got to watch a movie in one woodbrook imax cinema today (test screening). I was impressed with the screen quality, definitely better than movietowne. It was a 3d documentary called born to be wild. The cinema should be open to the public in the next few weeks. I would recommend checking it out though the price is a bit steep, 75 for 3d, 60 regular I believe.

Nice. Will check it out at least once, for a celebratory lime or something. $60-$75 for a movie is not average movie watching pocket change.

There is no Glassesless 3D...only difference between IMAX 3D and regular 3D is the Bigger SCreen and Better Sound...its an overall more engaging experience due to the magnitude of the screen and power of THX

Pretty much, definitely a better experience than movietowne though it costs more as well. I was really impressed with the audio. I don't go cinema often so I wouldn't mind taking in an IMAX film every once in a while.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAX#IMAX_3D

IMAX 3D
To create the illusion of depth, the IMAX 3D process uses separate camera lenses to represent the left and right eyes. The two lenses are separated by an interocular distance of 64 mm (2.5 in), the average distance between a human's eyes. Each lens feeds a separate roll of film. By projecting the two films simultaneously, viewers experience seeing a 3D image on a 2D screen. The IMAX 3D camera weighs over 113 kg (250 lb).
One method of creating the 3D illusion involves polarizating the light from the two images. During projection, the left and right eye images are linearly polarized as they are projected.[17] Eyeglasses with right and left lenses polarized to match the projection present each eye with just the image intended for that eye since the polarization cancels out the other eye's image.
Alternatively the two projectors take turns displaying each frame (while one projector's image is displayed, the other is blocked) at an effective rate of 48 frames per second. The viewer dons LCD shutter glasses that contain LCD panels that block or emit light in each eye in sync with the projector, such that each eye only sees the image intended for it.
Several films produced in a smaller-format 3D process for release in conventional theatres have also been presented in IMAX 3D, including Toy Story 3, Tron: Legacy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Avatar.
Further information: 3D film
Some IMAX theatres further enhance the viewing experience by moving and/or vibrating the seats at opportune moments.

Do they do the thing they do at the beginning of the movie where they tell you where all the speakers are and give you like the facts about the size and magnitude of it all? I've been to 2 Imax movies in canada, How to Train your Dragon and something else. Pretty damn worth it for a good movie. I really wanted to take in the last HP movie in it but didn't get to.

Somehow, it seems a little bit like the ppl in charge dropped the ball a bit, with the "official" opening (dunno what date it is) coming close on to the end of the summer movie season. I personally think it would probably be a good idea to have some backlogged movies play for a while, ones that would benefit from the imax experience - Avatar, Transformers, HP and maybe even a Star Wars?

whats the difference between classics and hollywood?

Also, that leather price for $100.00 is aptly named.

Take leather. Lihixxxxxxxxxxx in your wallet mc.

Comes with a complimentary date or at least a meal combo?
