Video file conversions

So there's a high possibility that there's a thread for this already but to find it may be a pain in the ass.

I'm trying to burn off some movies onto DVD's so i can watch in a normal player. Windows DVD Maker was working for me to a point where it didn't take .mkv file formats (FML)... SO i am either:

1) In search of a decent program that'll convert .mkv to .avi or something else to burn onto DVDs using Windows DVD Maker or...

2) A program which will burn the mkv file straight to the DVD to play off the bat.

N.B. - there's also the issue of keeping subtitles and audio sync etc when converting to avi. Already tried a program and i lost the subtitles on a movie i was trying to burn off.

2) Why don't you use a computer/laptop/netbook/htpc to play files instead of a lame DVD player??

3) You could try FairUse Wizard or Gordian knot/AutoGK (Gordian Knot for noobs).

1) W1nTry doesn't play BC2 on the PC, i do. I jus never bothered to make a different name since i had already leveled up that one.

2) As much as i would like to, there are still those cases that require the primitive technology.
