JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Broadband Technician

Summary:
Reporting to the Project Manager - Broadband, The Broadband Technician will be responsible for the Technical – Install / Testing / Maintenance / Troubleshooting and Repair of high speed data services and its ancillary equipment as well as provides back-end and front-end technical support to users.
Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to learn and perform entry-level field technical responsibilities. This position will demonstrate basic competence in technical and customer relations.
Responsibilities:
The Technician is responsible for connecting new and existing broadband services proficiently to a customer's PC; educate customers on how to utilize their systems and maintain a high level of customer service meaning; the individual responds to customer requests and answers customer questions in a professional, courteous, and effective manner. (Interact courteously with customers to detect problems, repair problems and represent the company in addition to identifying opportunities to provide additional services to customers and act on those opportunities to sell products.)
The Technician will properly operate and maintain tools and equipment as well as, keep an up-to-date knowledge of equipment and program services/listings in order to provide information to customers; the individual will also prepare and maintain logs, reports and other related documentation in accordance with company and departmental policies and also maintains, organizes and stocks their vehicle with the proper equipment in order to perform required duties.
The Technician will troubleshoot and repair common cable problems from the NID (Network Interface Device) to computer, work in a timely manner, with minimal necessary impact on the customer and property; the individual will also identify service issues beyond the Broadband Technician level and report to management as appropriate for follow-up to resolve problem.
Present a professional image in personal image and condition of vehicle. Practice necessary safety precautions in use of vehicle, use of tools, materials and ladder handling. Accompany another technician during duty for training purposes and perform other duties as requested by Project Manager - Broadband in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

Electronic and computer experience/aptitude desired.
Communications skills and the understanding of the basics of broadband installation desired.
Job Dimensions:
The scope of this position has the technician responsible for the tools, equipment, vehicles, and electronic devices that the technician is issued.
Essential Mental Functions:
The technician must demonstrate the ability for problem solving. Customer service needs are paramount to this position. Effective communications skills are required.
Essential Physical Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be in good physical condition to enable crawling, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pulling, pushing, grasping, lifting 75 pounds; and working with basic cable installation tools and general hand tools. The employee is required to climb a ladder, work and balance on the ladder. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Enviroment:
The work includes driving in the field; working in residential and commercial dwellings and outdoors, working at the computer and with paper forms, handling and delivering materials and working with ADSL equipment. Must be available to work overtime when requested or required. Must be available to work outside normally scheduled hours, 7 days per week.
Special Materials and Equipment used:
Vehicle, ladder, hand tools, computer and cellphone.
Required Education:
High school education or equivalent.
Five (5) subjects at CXC O'Level, including Mathematics and English Language (Grades I or II)
CompTIA A+ and Net+ knowledge required.
Coursework in Electronics, electronic wiring and/or Cabling helpful.
Required Work Experience:
1 year experience in electronic installation of related field work required.
Communications skills - previous customer contact experience helpful.
Additional Comments:
Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record required.
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required.
