A friend of mine is putting together the ultimate flight sim gaming PC.

This is what he wants to achieve:

I came up with this configuration for him (see attached)

Critique and suggestions welcome

While the wd black is awesome (i use one as my main drive), u may wanna invest in a solid state as I believe flight sims use alot of hd caching of large files (I may be wrong though) and hd performance may be a very important factor! Even the ssd hybrids may be a better choice for a main drive, since the files would be reused often.

Good observation and I agree. Initially I had a 128GB SSD Intel X25m in the configuration but yanked it out at the last minute on account of cost.

Will include it in the final build.

I can mos def see that he is using Track IR for looking around the cockpit. The specs are suited best for the FS Wyatt. As for getting the realistic feel, that would be a tough one. There are few components to enhance the experience (Cockpit, Flight Management Computer just to name a few) I will scope around on the net and get back to you with my findings. Glad to see someone else going public about enhancing their flight sim experience. Btw, if there are any other flight simmers out there, I have tons and tons and tons of addons for fs2004 and fsx (although the fsx is still a work in progress)

Why didn't you let him get the corsair HX 750 modular instead? http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-CMPSU-750HX-Professional-Certified-compatible/dp/B0029F21LK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1298656643&sr=8-2

And if a SSD is too exp right now he can get a WD Velociraptor in the mean time and then just get the SSD when prices drop to more affordable levels.

Redfish, did not go with the modular version on account of cost.

Seeing as the case has no side window, it should not be a problem imo. Will go with the SSD based on Ultimates input. Really  is the better option over the mechanical drives.

Berserk, the display will likely be two 1080p projectors.

Pablo, appreciate the assist.

Could you tell me how much hard drive space your install of FSX takes up? inclusive of addons?
