Oh that LC kit is nice.  I saw it in the Guru3D review.  I'm pretty certain that AMD will offer a SKU that includes LC kit and CPU.

Neither these cpu's nor their price are even remotely impressive.

You mean to tell me that after all these delays, a i5 2500k AT STOCK is on par with AMD's flagship? Not to mention that the 2500k is a FULL FIFTY dollars less???

And, dont forget that the 2500k is an unlocked cpu so whatever speeds AMD can do, it can do better, ESPECILLY as per clock and per core, Intel pwns amd's finest!! (See what I mean here)

As phoenix said, unless apps are thoroughly able to take advantage of the insane multithreading ability of the new FX, (which they cant at the moment), its an exercise in futility.

They tried to fight down the 'amount of cores' race but won very little else.

Only slightly better than an x6 man?

Thoroughly disappointed with this performance AND price vs performance, the latter of which AMD is usually known for.

AMD, in my book, you are henceforth renamed MAD.

I would like to see a direct comparison of this against one of the lower tier
LGA-1366 Intel CPUs though, like the 920, or 950, which are around the same price point.
I'm willing to bet the FX-8150 might come out as the winner there.

Hell no. If it can't beat a 'lowly' 2500k, it certainly can't touch any cpu on Intel's flaship chipset.

A 2500K so cheap now?  * checks Amazon *

WOW...down from $279 US.  Well, AMD just lost on the price/performance argument.

Even I cannot argue with that price...and the fact that it actually outperforms the 8150 at stock,
well, that really speaks for itself.

Cap...I'd still like to see that comparison though.  Remember, the newer SB CPUs are more efficient per core
than the Bloomfield ones.  I expect the 8150 to put up more of a fight with the Bloomfields. I would
like to see a direct comparison between BD's eight physical cores, and Bloomfield's eight logical cores,
at 4 GHz, just for information's sake.

I still think it's an incredible chip in its own right, but the general response across the internetz today is one
of extreme disappointment.

Can't knock em for trying.

Scene @ more effecient. By how much is the question, though I doubt its anything substantial.

I'll look for a comparison.

Ok here is that comparison

Its worth noting that some of SB's better scores can be attributed to its more aggressive Turbo Boost implementation over the older Nehalem.

Well it's official, today we pay tribute to a close friend of ours, though very appreciated and well thought of, he has passed and will be sadly and greatly missed... his name was 'Competitive Pricing'... yes folks his ailment started with the advent of Core 2, much to the delight of us all, curiously however Core 2 was treated with a cheap knock off vaccine known as Phenom... which was nothing more than a chicken pox shot for ebola, the vaccine was improved slightly with Phenom II but it was still like trying to swap a mac truck with a fly....

Sadly the ailment progressed to the Core i7 (the giant had awoken and AMD saw it the same way Japan id when hiroshima fell) state where he really was in dire straights... AMD made one last (rather POOR) attempt at a cure known as bulldozer... sadly bulldozer (on the desktop at least) was like a tonka toy trying to stop a tsunami.... with that last failed attempt our dearest friend (we'll call him CP for short) like a ghost in Starcraft said FK THIS ISH i'm GONE...

I am one of the few remaining fans of AMD (overall), to be fair they make good graphics cards.... and they make for a good HTPC... however i'll look back with fond memories and good thoughts and try to ignore the failing that is/was bulldozer but it appears that it's time to cross that 'sandy bridge' as it would NOT be 'intel'-ligent to pretend to be a captain and go down on a sinking ship....

It's been a good ride but all good things come to an end... ce la vie

I want to lol @ those metaphors but frankly I am too disappointed.

You are so right. With nothing to look forward to from MAD in the near future, Intel is going to charge what the damn well please for their next batch of E series SB's and IB's next year.

My upgrade is going to cost that much more now. Sigh.

So why can't AMD go back to it's old "pre-athlon" era strategy and just underprice intel like a mofo?

They'll make up in volume.

9/10 PCs on the market don't require the horsepower we gamers demand.

That should keep them alive until they have technology that could challenge the boys in blue again for top billing.

If they are not hot on Intel's heels, Intel will rest on their laurels and release what they want when they want and for how much they want. Not that they will stop research and development but in the mean time, prices across the board WILL increase and not just in the enthusiast segment.

This is very very bad.

It ain't that bad.

Picture this, AMD floods the market with cpus at  $99.99

They are fit for practically 95% of desktop CPU applications.

Intel's market share plummets.

They will have no choice but to reduce the price on their mid tier processors to keep a healthy slice of the market.

wyatt.. thats all well and good... IF they did that.. that would be lovely...

but at the current prices.. they arent doing that...

so when they do that.. the price will either force intel to drop there's or release some lower range chips to compete which is good for the general market

market forces will drive the price down. I not worried.

if it really can't stand up to intel toe to toe and sales not looking right, they'll drop the price like a big stone.
