Infinity Blade
« on: December 05, 2010, 02:11:38 PM »
I tried gaming on my mobile device over the years but it never really lasted more than a couple of days.

From Doom on the Ipaq to Tekken on my BlackBerry.

All but given up on the genre until seeing this:

WTF!

Steups...yet another no-name FPS, that looks exactly like Halo,
down to the 'warthog' (0:56) and all.  :(

dude u missing the point. Its a FPS...for your MOBILE!! I sure like it on my Nexus One. Never going to (or was it ever intended to) replace your normal gaming on your platform of choice but rather a cool 'time waster' shooter.

Brilliant gif there though wyatt. What movie that from?

Your argument of them being "no-name" games is rather silly though when you consider that every game started off as such at some point. Perhaps you want the next iteration of CoD, Halo, MoH or some other "known" series, but many others like getting into new worlds and seeing different things rather than a mobile version of an established series. Or maybe you just want to see a familiar protagonist leading the charge on a new set of levels? New platforms give developers a chance to flesh out new intellectual properties since everything is a clean slate - as opposed to putting out a potential subpar experience with a known hero, thereby damaging the image of that series.

Agreed ^^

Just give him some time. Once he gets his hands on a Galaxy Tab or some other smartphone, just sit back and watch him freak game on it like there is no tomorrow, no name or big name.

I was actually joking somewhat, but since you felt the need to respond, I shall do so in kind:

I never really got into 'mobile' gaming until I got myself a PSP.  modern smartphones
can do a lot of things well...except playing serious games.  I'll take a dedicated handheld
gaming device any day over a smartphone that can play games.  Maybe the PSPhone will
be the first device to truly bridge that gap. Who knows?  Until then, I'll have my PSP thanks. :)

...and I make no apologies for calling those games 'no-name'.  They shall remain such until
they gain some kind of critical and commercial acclaim...not so?

Well platform is everything. Playstation as a platform will attract a hell of a lot more game developers than any mobile os would. As you said, psp phone may just be the device that bridges that gap. Hell, Android may just get a lot more attention from said crowd because as we all know, psp phone is an android powered beast.

Hardware wise, there is nothing stopping even current mobiles on the market from running these specs intensive games, what with 1ghz cpu's and dedicated mobile graphics and all.

Personally, I like to keep an open mind because as Czar said, big name developers and franchises are all well and good and is necessary but dont discount those 'no name' developers either. They may very well surprise you.
