Ten women working for the Mexicana airline feature in the calendar, which sees the attendants, clad in bikinis and abbreviated uniforms, posing with propellers and in the cockpit.
The ladies came up with the idea after Mexicana, which is estimated to have debts in excess of £500 million, cut pay for pilots and cabin crew and announced plans to slash the workforce by 40 per cent.
'It occurred to me because we all needed money, and I thought that with so many pretty girls (among Mexicana's staff) there were bound to be some who'd be interested,' said organiser Coral Perez.
In a move evoking the 1997 British film The Full Monty, the stewardesses clubbed together to fund the production costs themselves.
News of the calendar's impending release sparked a media frenzy, with the first run of 1,000 selling out before it was launched.
One of the models, 26-year-old Maribel Zavala, explained that the group needed to do something to ease their financial plight. 'The goal was to try to help ourselves because we lost everything overnight,' she said.
Mexicana filed for bankruptcy in Mexico City and New York in August, saying it needed to 'restructure its costs and ensure viability of the company'.
