Well I remember Swype was a free beta and noticed it comes installed on certain phones. Don't think it was ever a paid app. I prefer SwiftKey.

Loved Swype on my Samsung, and i've been looking for that experience since. I have the Swiftkey3 and the Swiftkey Flow but still think Swype is better. Swiftkey misses a few things for me.

I love how Swype does capitals, and I wish SwiftKey could 'borrow' the idea.
That's my only gripe with it.   

SwiftKey's corretion/prediction engine is miles ahead of even Swype...and that's why I love it.

Its amazing that just a few years ago you needed an actual console to play this.

In addition to the mobile space, i'd like to see open source gain more traction for serious gaming and I see android as the way to achieve that.

Clearly it hasnt been happening all along but now, Android probably has more games made for it than there ever was for Linux since its inception.

And almost instant on, bloat free Android install capable of running all my PC games. Sounds like a console, doesnt it? But why is that a bad thing?

One open source OS, installable on ANY machine even remotely capable of gaming, of course better hardware will get you better results but essentially, one OS to rule them all.

Its like having whatever OS runs on the xbox on ANY pc....

Damn it, I should have patented the idea. I would have been rich!!!

And that's where i think they fall short. They are so certain of their prediction engine that they make correcting mistakes a terror. Swype and Touchpal allow you to select anywhere in a word and fix it, you HAVE to touch the end of a swiftkey word to correct it. Not to mention only 3 predictions, almost to say if you didn't get it perfect that first time, then you must be a horrible typist.

It is amazing how time and technology changes everything.

Android as a viable gaming platform and steam coming to linux.

The winds of change blew strong in 2012 and looks to continue into 2013

I expect some more maturity of the platform to take place before Android can really win in the gaming department. Especially against consoles. A steam / android colabo could be fantastic.

Android devices like the OUYA  can definitely win in the HTPC space right now though. Heavy on media, light on gaming.

Next 2 - 3 years, minds will be blown.

Is there any decent backup app on Android that doesn't require root?

The backup and restore app data which is one of the more important things to me seems to require root on the premiere backup solutions in the PlayStore.

I'm trying to steer away from rooting as i don't want to get sucked into the world of ROM hunting, not to mention that chance to brick.

One a side note, if that's the reasons for you not rooting your phone, I'd still say go for it. You don't have to change your ROM when rooting, although if you want added features and battery life, it would be best you did it.

And the chance of you you bricking your phone when rooting if very, very minimal. Wih all the tutorials out there, it's hard to go wrong.

What model phone are you using anyway?

Just got my hands on a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, is it any good? should i bother checking it out, or just set it up and give back d client?

Its good as far as android tablets go. They still have a lot of catching up to do in the apps department as you've probably read on here countless times before.

Androids strength is really on the phone form factor at the moment.

By end of 2013, that should change though as more and more "HD" apps are available that look sensible on the bigger screens.

Nexus 7 would be my personal choice (but that is more a matter of pricing)

Lord have mercy, when will android cease to disappoint me. I had a relatively nice experience with the GS3, better than most. But using this galaxy tab sucks egg!

First to begin with, no physical home button? you serious? geeze.
I had to actually look for the settings.
Then i tryin to setup an exchange email account, i see d thing going through i say nice, black screen, email app crash mid add...lol, not a nice introduction to android tablets at all.

Geeze, 2nd crash, i really hate android.

Third crash, honestly? Hard-reset time, sigh. (Brand new device btw, now come out d box from digicel)

Hard restet-4th crash, for crying out loud, is this kinda thing that does make meh keep ah 10 foot pole from android, is blasted 2013 why this sort of instability still exists on high end devices hh. Look how long Tab 2 10.1 out, stueps.

5th-attempt, with some prayers, IT NOW WOK! Client just get charge an extra hr billing because android is mess, is bess they did buy ah ipad, they'd end up paying the same price in the end, and end up with a better device. Epic Fail Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

lol and its not just with the Tab neither...

i have a transformer prime that i use for work, same issues... although prolly not as frequent... and it happens with all apps not just mail... it really takes its tole when i start multitasking and multitabbing on the browser to...

the people from work who actually own these devices doh, they live with it and find workarounds and pretend it doesn't exist or its cool or acceptable idk

I have a Transformer Infinity tablet, I've never experienced any of those issues. Are yall on the latest firmware?

When i finish setup d email, and was about to shutdown the device, the app launcher that pops up d quick apps crashed :S So u swiping left and right on d screen, with a ghost overlay of d icons, boy i juss hold down d power botton, click "power off" wipe off meh finger prints, put it back in d plastic, box it, hand d client it, and say "Android is mess, Good luck with that device" Only to find out, another user had one and it ups and died, and digicel had to replace it.

So i tell them, they need to monitor how these things performing and decide weather they want to continue using them or not, because i spend alot of time on this one just setting up an email account.

I can understand d need to save money, but jah. And i try to use the browser, ....boy that device rel vex me yes.
