Ok so I bought an AT&T Samsung Captivate that was unlocked because I got it at  good price. I need some advice -

1. It has 2.1 loaded on it. If I update to 2.2 will it undo the unlocking?
2. I used my bmobile bb sim ($99 BB data package) in it and created the APN and got internet access. Is this a violation of my bmobile contract and if so can TSTT know that I am using it in an android instead of my BB?

Not sure about the sim question. You safe upgrading to 2.2, it won't affect unlock in any way.

Long story short my last rom flash did not go as planned. When I turn on my captivate it just shows the at&t screen and then goes straight to the recovery menu, if I choose reinstall packages it puts me into cwm.

I've been trying all these keypresses for download mode but no luck, it simply boots into the recovery menu.
http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Putting_the_Phone_into_Download_Mode

As I can get into CWM, is there any way for me to access an external microusb card? I have an extra one and was wondering if I could simply copy across a new rom onto that sd card from my pc and then use cwm to install it from the microusb card.

I noticed they said the last option is a jig. Does anyone have one of these? If I could borrow it that would be a lifesaver.

Man, that's a piece of cake compared to the trouble i've gotten into.

You have access to CWM, you can either copy a fresh rom on ur sd via a sd card on a reader via a pc and reflash the rom right there from CWM. Before you do that though, do a wipe of cache and system data and reflash.

Could also be just a bad flash so after doing a cache and sys data wipe, try reflashing the existing rom on the card again.

I tried reflashing the rom zip on the internal storage, same problem. I was able to get a fresh rom on the sd card via a usb memory card adapter. My question is now how do I access the files on the card via CWM? It seems to only show files on the internal storage.

As for the jig I would get one but was hoping that I coulda just borrow one from allyuh, can't wait a week+ to fix this :S

There is an option in recovery to "install zip from sdcard". That will allow you to flash a rom that exists on ur sd.

Hmm when I use that option I only see stuff on the built in memory, not seeing the files I copied across on the external memory card.

Hmm wow. Ok is your bootloader unlocked? If so that should be able to scan mem cards for a pd98.img file.

Very strange that cwm is not accessing the mem card though. I have no such problem with HTC.

Hmm not sure, I was only able to root and go to stock rom. After the rom flash to darkys 10.2 that is when I got stuck. How do I check to see if it unlocked?

When you press reboot in cwm do you get an option to boot into the Bootloader in addition to recovery and normal boot?

Unfortunately... 'external' SD cards are not seen in CWM on Samsung phones.
CWM can only access the storage in the phone itself.

..ouch.......hence the need for that 'jig' right? Interesting. Woody, if u dont have unlocked bootloader, you'll have no choice but to order it and wait. Too bad you didnt have a stable rom on ur internal memory to flash back easily.
