This may come in handy for those looking for a good android virtual keyboard

http://lifehacker.com/5816150/how-to-find-the-right-android-keyboard-for-you

"Compared to your full-sized desktop keyboard, typing on your phone's tiny software keyboard just plain sucks. Luckily, Android users can choose from a myriad of different keyboards, meaning you can find one that caters to your typing style. Here's how to find the right one for you."

Android and Roms, you hear them discussed together in several conversations. Here is a quick guide on what a Rom is and how to choose one.

http://lifehacker.com/5596108/how-to-choose-the-right-android-rom-for-you

"There are tons of great reasons to root your Android phone, but once you do, you'll likely be overwhelmed with all the custom ROM options out there. Here's how to go about finding--and installing--the one that fits your needs."

bought an android tablet last week off amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Herotab-C8-Samsung-Capacitive-Multi-touch/dp/B004W0HFJI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309356534&sr=8-1

same hardware specs as the galaxy tab 7'' for half the price.

I must say after upgrading to a custom rom that I definitely got my money's worth.

I bought it more as something to experiment with rather than a replacement pc.

One plus for this - hdmi output

Samsung Galaxy S 2 Plus rumoured to add more power to the S 2 powerhouse

http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/samsung-galaxy-s-2-plus-rumoured-to-add-more-power-to-the-s-2-powerhouse-50004233/

"Word on the street says the mooted S 2 Plus would pack a 1.4GHz processor, up from the current phone's 1.2GHz chip. That's already a boost over the 1GHz chip planned for the phone when it was originally announced. We guess Samsung just can't resist upgrading that processor, which is great for fancy stuff like faster apps and glorious-looking games, but could give the battery a kicking."

Just tried this app on my phone, Wikitude, an augmented reality browser. Kinda freaky just saw a video my neighbour posted on youtube...

http://www.androidguys.com/2011/06/28/wikitude-61-offers-tablet-optimized-augmented-reality/

Wikitude, a key player in the Augmented Reality game since the days of the first Android Developers Challenge, has just updated their AR browser.  Available in the Android Market today, version 6.1 is now optimized for tablets running Honeycomb. This means those of you with a Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and G-Slate can take advantage of the browser that enhances the world around you.

Coupling your current location with the camera on your tablet (or phone), you can locate nearby places, tweets, images, and more.  These Wikitude "worlds" include Yelp, Flickr, YouTube videos, Tweets, Wikipedia entries, to name just a few.  And it's not all novelty stuff either as you can hunt down restaurants, ATM's, local shops and other points of interest.  To describe how it works is one thing, to see it in action is entirely different. You should definitely download Wikitude 6.1 to your Android 1.5+ device today and give it a shot.

I'm looking into the Velocity Cruz R101 ereader, which is a cheap android based ereader. I know little-nothing about tablets and Android, so would the gurus of this thread shed some light plix.

Basically I am trying to figure out if i'll be able to install Kindle on it (seeing as it's a competing ereader tech), browse the net, watch a lil youtube and maybe watch a lil video on it off the SD card. Will it fufill these meager requirements?

On a related note...

Another Android manufacturer caves to Microsoft patent pressure
In the second announcement this week, Microsoft says it has reached an agreement with Velocity Micro for royalty payments -

http://www.infoworld.com/t/android/another-android-manufacturer-caves-microsoft-patent-pressure-622

"Microsoft's Android legal steamroller snagged two small players this week.

As Ted Samson reported yesterday in Tech Watch, small-time Android hardware manufacturer General Dynamics Itronix agreed on Tuesday to start paying a license fee to Microsoft for each Android device it sells. As best I can tell, the only Android device Itronix makes is a "Rugged Wearable Mobile Computing Platform" called the GD300 "for warfighters, first responders or commercial field service users" with a "glove-friendly touchscreen display."

The very next day, Microsoft announced another capitulation in the Android patent wars. Velocity Micro, manufacturer of the Cruz R101 and T301 Tablets, announced that it, too, would pay Microsoft an undisclosed sum for each Android device it sells.  The R101 retails for about $120 and the T301 for about $160, so the royalty payments must be rather miniscule."

Sometimes I need a little extra volume when listening to my podcasts via the phone speaker. I know apps like voodoo control let you amplify the headphone jack but I was looking for something that could boost both the headphone and built in phone speaker. I found something that works well, don't put your speakers too high though cuz your ears or speakers might explode :p

Samsung Galaxy S II: 3M Units Sold in 55 days
« Reply #377 on: July 03, 2011, 10:34:18 PM »

The Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone
has shattered the company's sales records by reaching more than three million units sold
within the device's first 55 days of existence. That's all of 30 days faster than the original
Galaxy S smartphone was able to achieve a similar milestone.

In the study, Dasient analyzed the live behavior of Android apps to determine their security posture. Of the 10,000 applications evaluated, more than 800 were found to be leaking personal data to an unauthorized server, Daswani says.

In addition, the researchers found that 11 of the applications were sending potentially unwanted SMS messages out to other smartphones--the mobile version of spam, Daswani says.
