I'm not a heavy user so I could still have about 60% charge after 18 hours or so (using Whatsapp, Facebook and some light browsing)

Below is a screen shot of today, used the phone a bit more as I watched some videos.

nice find woody.

Installing with the quickness

I think there is a HUGE untapped potential for re-purposing old classics on Android.

Not just emu stuff....but legit revamps for the platform.

It has begun in the forms of pitfall and tetris. A lot of IPs way past their copyright date are going to see new life. lol

The window of opportunity is small though because soon (in a 4 -5 years) the mobile platform will reach the fidelity of consoles and then these oldies but goodies won't be as appealing when you can play Mass Effect 5 and Call of Duty 13 on your phone.

"Google Play Games" Leaks Out In All Its Glory Ahead Of Google I/O
« Reply #1663 on: May 12, 2013, 12:38:01 AM »
Looking good....

http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/05/11/google-play-games-leaks-out-in-all-its-glory-ahead-of-google-io-hello-cloud-game-saves-apk-teardown/

Remember how we told you Google Games was coming, and how it's going to pack multiplayer functionality, leaderboards, achievements, and stuff like that? That's happening. There are going to be cloud game saves too.
Fresh out of Google HQ, we've managed to score a copy of the new Google Play Services v3.1.36, which is very slowly rolling out to devices right now. For comparison, the current Play Services that most people have is v3.0.27. 3.1 is a massive update - the strings file, for instance, has more than doubled from 300 to 700 entries. This is how Google is pushing out all the shared files for Google Play Games.
Those who have the new Play Services may have noticed some strange things going on in their sync settings, but that's boring, we'll talk about that later in Part 2. Check out what's on my phone right now:

Today at BlackBerry Live, CEO Thorsten Heins announced BBM will soon be available on Android and iOS. The messaging app will launch globally this summer. This is a huge move for BlackBerry as it brings BB10′s strongest feature to literally hundreds of millions of potential users.

“It is a state of confidence,” Heins explained. “The BB10 platform is so strong and the response has been so good that the time is right for BBM to become an independent mobile messaging platform.”

Good post. You beat me to it.

I'm not sure. Before things like Whatsapp and viber I would have said this was an epic move. Now, i'm not too sure what BBM for android/ios could really offer that the aforementioned cannot.

I think this will be a flop....

http://portablegamingregion.com/nvidia-shield-hitting-the-shelves-this-june-priced-at-350/

Nvidia Shield hitting the shelves this June, priced at $350

Four months after surprising the whole industry by announcing Project Shield, Nvidia revealed that their Tegra 4-powered Android-based portable gaming console which is now officially titled “Nvidia Shield” will be hitting the North American shelves this June, priced at $349.99. You’ll be able to pre-order it starting next Monday, May 20 from Micro Center, New Egg, GameStop, and Canada Computers. However, those subscribed to the Nvidia’s Project Shield notification list can pre-order it as of today.

Nvidia also announced five portable games that will be coming to its first-ever gaming console as launch titles. These are as follows: Costume Quest and Broken Age (Double Fine), Flyhunter: Origins (Steel Wool Games), Skiing Fred (Dedalord Games), and Chuck’s Challenge (Chuck Sommerville’s Niffler). The console will be running Android 4.2.1 at its release. Notable features include a 5-inch display (720p), 16 GB of internal storage, and a “console-grade” gaming controller. Also, according to some new info from Forbes, the console’s battery should be capable enough of 5-hours-long playing sessions of Tegra 4-optimized games with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, which we admit is pretty impressive. Nvidia Shield will come packed with two games: Retrobomb’s Expendable: Rearmed, and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2.

Europeans and other mobile gamers are also probably getting their hands on Nvidia Shield during summer. As always, we’ll keep you posted.

1) Still in shock @ bbm on android

2) Agreed @ Woody....this is priced outside the market. It will have to compete with the wii u and next gen xbox / ps4

Easy decision there for most consumers. Especially when they already have a gaming capable mobile phone.

If the price comes down to sub $200....it begins to look like an epic HTPC with some mobile capability.

A nice conversation PC for those with a gaming desktop and an easy means to stream it to the big screen.

Well I still want Nvidia to say exactly who they trying to sell that to, because I don't think I ever wake up a mornin and say 'nah, boy...I  NEED a Nvidia Shield in meh life.'...and I'm a techie.

That going to join the 'illustrious' ranks of the Atari Jaguar,  Philips 3DO, and Windows Phone.....

Yeah,  a hot pack a ass.

Early signs that Android will become a major gaming platform...

http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/14/4331438/ea-working-on-frostbite-go-mobile-game-engine

Quote
EA has long been said to be working on a mobile version for its Frostbite engine, and now the company has posted information about the effort online. The Frostbite page officially reveals the existence of Frostbite Go, a "mobile division" meant to allow Frostbite-based games. While it says the Frostbite Go project will target "all major mobile platforms," only iOS and Android are mentioned specifically. The company was hiring mobile developers last year, and an EA / Dice project manager mentioned a mobile team called Frostbite Go in April. Epic — whose mobile version of Unreal Engine 3 powers popular iOS game Infinity Blade — has long led the pack in bringing AAA engines to mobile platforms, but EA and Crytek have both previously made tentative steps into the space.

No timeline is given for Frostbite Go's work, nor do we know any potential titles that might ship with it. EA is currently developing the Frostbite 3 engine, which will debut with Battlefield 4 this fall. It will also power a newly announced line of Star Wars games developed by EA. Somewhat oddly, Frostbite 3 has already been declared potentially unviable on one lower-powered platform: that new Star Wars series won't be coming to the Wii U because of performance problems.

Wyatt, in that same quote it saying what I've been saying all the time, d new games being developed not even going to be running on the wii u for that latest engine, lol. Mobile in 5 years? rofl.

And if infinity blade is d standard, then that's even more hilarious.

Like I said, in 5 years they mite be able to get something like battlefield 3 looking somewhat "ok" on mobile.
But the consoles/pc will be significantly ahead at that time. Mobile go get significantly better yes. But other hardware not standing still during that same time-frame. That gap will exist for a very long time, barring some kinda meteoric advancement in mobile hardware.

The rest of the world has moved on with WhatsApp and other cross-platform messaging apps.

Have fun in your shitty little bbm world.

I fedup give the arcade example messiaah.

Arcade hardware didn't stop getting more advanced but once consoles got "good enough", the advantages were too numerous for the "superior" arcade hardware to win over the masses.

Once mobile could run Battlefield 3 level graphics, the masses won't care for the extreme high fidelity offered by the PC.

Want proof? Look at the consoles of this generation.

They are complete rubbish compared to the average gaming PC in terms of graphics, YET...the masses have swarmed all over them in droves. Despite the superiority.

So while you may be spending US$3000 on the latest PC platform in 2018, rest assured....90% of the gamers in GATT will be sweating on some inexpensive mobile platform. Most likely their very own phone.

And I fedup respond to that telling u the Consolve Vs Arcade battle, is not d same thing with Console vs mobile.

Console addressed very specific and numerous needs gamers had that arcade could not provide.
Gaming on yuh phone not addressing anything other than being mobile. And if u start to add what's needed for a great high end gaming experience to a mobile device , then it no longer mobile as arcman pointed out a while back.

Console vs Arcade was a completely different scenario and does not apply in any way shape or form, to mobile vs console.

And if u cyah see that, then.....wah I go tell u again, I cant stop u from dreaming lol.

I use my phone as an htpc currently. In 2013

Via hdmi cable to the big screen in the living room.

All other peripherals connect wirelessly.

You really cant see a phone supplanting a console when it is capable of battlefield 3 performance in 5 years or less?

That ain't even a dream. That doesnt even require imagination.
