Well, I noticed...and you are right.  I still intend to get 2 6870s.
Much better value there.

You didnt open the 6xxx thread, did you.

Boy are you in for a shock.

Even before the price hike, 460's was still giving similar performance for cheaper so I dont understand how 6870's are better value.

...and still no SLI bridge.  FAIL!!!

...and I'll let this article be my final word on the whole 460 SLI vs 6870 CrossfireX debate.

The results speak for themselves.....and the 6870s aint get overclock yet. :)

They both win some and loose some, in a lot of the cases, they are actually neck and neck in performance so what exactly is ya point. Overclocking is just icing on the cake

And not to mention a crossfire configuration costs AT LEAST $100us more than a 460 sli. For similar performance? nah man. ANDDDD you have to roll the dice on whether or not Bad Company 2 MULTIPLAYER (those benchies are single player only) will work properly in crossfire with the same retarded issues persisting across at least FIVE different driver releases?

Awww helll no.

Cleafrly you need to read the entire article.  The 6870s 'win' the majority vs the 460s, and I am referring to the overclocked 1GB FTW ones too, which are the same price as the 6870s incidentally.  I wonder why that is?

Try again when you're done reading. :)

I may have not stated this clearly before but those ftw editions are a waste of money. For $us200 you can get factory overclocked cards. These are capable of attaining similar speeds that the ftw can.

Click apply oc settings @ startup, boom, good to go. True set it and forget it business.

Keep in mind that the CHEAPEST 6870 is $50 us more. I re-iterate, a crossfire in those will cost you an ENTIRE benjamin more than it would cost to setup 2 460's. Also keep in mind that there are cheaper 460's around that will overclock just as well eh.

That said, SURELY one would expect one's money to buy performance that is clearly head and shoulders above the performance of cards that cost $100us less.

Alas, this is NOT the case. Dirt2, Metro 2033 both get licks and pay attention how your OWN 'hoss' Hawx get trounced by a pair of lowly 768mb 460's. Ooops, how embarrassing.

And in 95% of the other cases, exactly how much did the 460's really loose by? 3 or 4 frames? Come on, you KNOW u not seeing that difference in game.

I know u are a Bad Company 2 fan as well and I KNOW you experienced the crossfire issues in that game when u tried to run newer drivers.

So, my friend, since u seem like the rolling the dice joke with ati, best of luck with your choice. Better start hoping and praying that they FINALLY fix that retarded issue.

Hope u dont complain too much in game abt my Neostead and u cant respond because of choppy gameplay. Yeah...good luck indeed.

You seem to have intentionally missed my point, for the sake of numbers,
which was to point out the overall better performance and lower power consumption
of the 6870s.  As for the HAWX 2 thing...that was clearly explained in a previous article.

Still, I honestly feel that two 6870s are the better value, especially if the cards are kept at stock
clocks, which I intend to do until I get a new motherboard.  THEN I shall unleash the POWAAAA,
and put them wee little 460s to SHAME!!!  :laughing7:

I beeing an overclocker go never choose 2 460s over 2 6870s.
When i done with my 6870s, it have nothing u coudl do to dem 460s to come close t d performance i go be runing lol.

U cant compare ah OCed 460 against ah Stock 6870.
and if u comparing both cards OCed, fuh 100$ more, d perfomrnace increase with 2 OCed 6870s over 2 OCed 460 will be well worth it in my book.

That being said, i waiting for d 6990 :)

Ati:

9700 pro
9800 xt
4870x2
5970

Whoever better, i jumping ship, and d fact that my mobo can run either crossfire or sli. NO LOYALTEES!, nvidia juss drop d ball with that price/power/heat.

D 460 is there best attempt, i actually bought one for ah shit machien i was building.

But as of right now, ATI still kicking dey ass.

As of right now, amd have a slight edge but one that is being dulled by high prices and marginal increases in performance and in some cases, worse performance.

Not to mention ati and they crew of driver writers seem to break more things than they fix. Things on nvidia side arent perfect but there is far less wailing and gnashing of teeth wrt drivers ESPECIALLY for multi gpu setups.

I patiently await 560 and 570, both of which im certain will keep ati on the backfoot for yet another generation.

D driver and related issues dont bother me as much, because when i encounter something not working, i tend to fix it. yea its ah bother, but i want max performance, if dat means ah lil tweak, ah lil ratch, ah lil hack here and there, im game.

That being said.

I've updated my driver via steam ah while back, and that thing runs perfect.

STEAM UPDATE FTW!

I can see arc and capn being the W1nTry and Crixx moving forward, or maybe we 'old' heads should join the battle XD

I would have to say Nvidia is behind as their tech is hot and large and MONTHS late to the DX 11 race, not to mention things like eyefinity, guess how many nvidia cards you need for 6 displays :p

That aside they BOTH make great cards, ppls distance vary with each as Capn has now had a bad experience so too has some smuck out there, so it's safe to say we'll always have a split. Sure there are times when 1 team dominates over the other.

I've owned the following
Geforce 5900XT (briefly it was DOA)
Radoen 9800
X800XT
8800GT
HD4870X2 (x2)
5200FX (in more than 1 crap machine i've built)
6300LE

And to be fair they all served their purpose. If tom Nvidia comes with something that I consider the best (within my price range) i'll opt for it. The ONLY thing I can say is I NOT giong dual GPU again. SLI and Xfire sure, single Unit dual GPU nah....

interesting, becuase single dual gpu is epic win in my book yes.

1 waterblock, cooling 2 gpus, and overclock d shit outa it.

and a water block is like 120-150$ US, dey not cheap.
And dual gpus cheaper dan 2 singles.

So all in all, i paying like 300+ less , for like performance.
and my 5970 runs at 30degree on load, so yea.

I usually try to keep an open mind but ati really tick me off with that crossfire experience with the 5850's. My favourite game performed like crap and they did nothing to fix the issues.

Yeah I have beef with ati right now. Cah get my money at all at all.

Price is exactly where I expected it to be...300-350 US.  Thing is...it now makes absolutely
no sense to purchase a GTX 480, now that this card outclasses it for less money.

Aint technology grand?  :)
