Sony Corp. plans to slash the price of the PSP Go in the United States and Japan later this month, according to a Reuters report. The company said that it is cutting the price of its hand-held in anticipation of the holiday shopping season.The cut represents about $50 percent off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.Launched two years ago, the PSP go relies on digital distribution to deliver games to consumers; while previous versions offered support for games on the UMD format.The price drops to an MSRP of $199, down from the current price of $249. In Japan the PSP Go retails for 16,800 yen, down from 26,800 yen. The PSP in various formats has sold 61 million units since its launch in 2004.While Reuters claims in its report that the PSP Go price cut happens later this month, retailers such as Walmart (WalMart web listing), Target (Target web ad) and Amazon.com (Amazon listing) are already listing the system at the new price point.
