Good Day

I am currently going to school in America and would like to do a sort of Anime City. As such I was wondering if there was anything I NEEDED to do or if I could just get some anime and show it.

Personally, no, sorry, but you can PM New Era Outlaw who is an admin on the site he can direct you. Maybe if he sees this thread he can contribute.

If you're in the US and showing anime that has been licensed by US distributors you're going to have to get written permission from them as regular anime dvds are not licensed for public showings, this also includes fansubbed versions of licensed titles.

Some companies have programs that help out anime clubs with stuff they have the licenses for.

Locally, Anime City supposedly got permission in the earlier events for public showings although later on they showed some anime with REALLY bad subs which could easily have been chinese knockoffs.

From my experience, aside from the permission from the distributors to show the anime in a public venue (like rb suggested), you're going to need:

- An appropriate venue that can hold at least 100 people, WITH air conditioning (if you're planning to throw something bigger than that, then adjust to suit)
- Proper Equipment (Projectors, Screens, Speakers and somebody on standby if technical problems arise)
- Enough chairs/tables to seat your crowd
- Somebody to serve refreshments

It also helps if you get sponsors in on the idea, and, in exchange for giving you a little something to reduce overall cost, they can sell/promote at your event. If you throw in a side event, like a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament, then a lot more people will have incentive to come.
